Looking for an Alternative Solution to Hearing Aids

My daughter's hearing is declining. Our healthcare provider thinks that she needs a hearing aid. Is there a center in the Chicago area for audiology, maybe a school that teaches audiology. The doctors cannot tell me how this happened. They said they are at a loss. I just cannot accept the fact that they do not know and they said they suggest a hearing aid. There has to be some sort of treatment or something. With all the technological advances, there has to be SOMETHING!!!

Hello!

I read this article on http://www.cbs2.com/health/local story
Loyala Univeristy Medical Center (CHICAGO)has come up with a new treatment for sudden hearing loss. Also, review your daughters past medications, because there are certain medications (especially antibiotics) I know some one who lost complete hearing in left ear aftr taken Armacacin, doctors tried to revise medical records, but they were unaware that after all his previous visits he requested copies of medical records. They had to settle with him a award him for damages.
Another website is www.cureresearch.com
give alot of other info. Well good luck and I hope this helps you out.

I agree, they should provide you with a reason for this decline in your daughter's hearing. I suggest Children's Memorial Hospital. They are on the cutting edge of children's health issues. Or you may try University of Chicago Hospital. Since they are a teaching hospital, they may have insights into new technology. Hope this helps.

Have you been to Children's Memorial. My daughter has had some problems, not hearing ,but other problems and they are literally the best there and they have great resources for everything. If you have not contacted someone from there, they have a fantastic ear nose and throat doctor who only sees kids based on referrals and the severity of their case and in your case, I would think they would make an appointment for you!
Good Luck

Hello,

I'm not sure of an audiology school but I know that the Sertoma center is where I had to get my daughter's hearing tested. I think there's one in Palos Hills and maybe Olympia Fields, I can't remember now. I'm sure someone there would be able to direct you to someone else more specialized though. I would definitely look into different treatments, there's something out there I heard of that's like a hearing aid, but it's more specialized.
I hope this helps a little.

I would suggest contacting the Audiology Clinic at Northwestern University ###-###-####). It sounds as if you have already had an audiological evaluation completed. If this is true, the clinic may be able to provide some resources for your child. Good luck!
