Looking for a Puppy

Does anyone know if there are any reputable breeders in Oregon who breed miniature Jack Russell terriers?

My internet searching has found breeders of full size Jack russels, but not minis.

We have a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. We love the Jack russels, but want another small dog. Similar in size to our current dog who is 12#.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Mini Jack Russells are an actual breed. There just doesn't seem to be any breeders in my area. I found breeders in Georgia, the UK, & Australia.

I have been looking at shelters, on craigslist, etc. I'm not looking to rush into buying a dog. I'd just like to add a nice small dog to our home. Preferably a Jack Russell.

if you're willing to spend enough $ there is always someone willing to sell to you and convince you it's exactly what you want. maybe a dog breeding message board would be more helpful. found this website: http://www.jack-russell-lover.com/miniature-jack-russell.... which states you may be looking to get scammed. there are a lot of smaller dogs that would be just as great as a "purebred". just sayin'....personally i'm pretty anti dog breeding and buying/selling in general. just don't think it's right, myself...

You might want to try PetFinder.com.

If you haven't yet, or don't know about it - it's a website that hundreds of shelters around the country use to help find forever families for almost every kind of animal that needs a home.

You can specify size, breed, gender and do a close search or search *all* that is available for adoption. I've found and adopted three purebred dogs over the years using this search engine and a couple mixes.

Remember, Don't Shop! Adopt! :)

If it were me, I'd call a regular-sized breeder (um, what I just wrote is not exactly what I meant to say) and ask both whether there are mini breeders in your state and whether there's a rescue organization for the tiny ones, which would be another great lead to finding a dog. It seems that good dog breeders, ones who really care about their breed, know other good breeders and the other good people.

Reputable breeders generally don't breed "miniatures" of a breed that isn't supposed to be miniature. But any breeder can accidentally produce a dog that is outside of the breed standard, so you could check with regular JRT breeders. Also, Jack Russells have a pretty wide size range (10 to 15 inches at the shoulder), so a dog on the smaller end of the scale might be around the size you're seeking.

Or you might want to try a Miniature Rat Terrier or a Toy Fox Terrier. Those breeds are pretty small while retaining that fun-loving terrier temperament.

Best of luck, I hope you find your perfect dog!

Are mini Jack Russells an actual breed, or are you looking for someone that is experimenting in that area?
I would call the Jack Russell terrier breeders and ask them.
I would also be on the lookout at your local shelter and check out your area rescue groups. You may actually find the perfect dog there!

Jack Russells are very active -- are you sure you want to do this?
Actually, they're crazy! They don't settle down until they are OLD.
You are a brave soul.

Try petfinder.com or ebay classified (thats where I found our puppy here in Florida). The breeder I delt with has her dogs all certified with CKC.
