I think Dental Dreams takes medical card. The office is on East State Street.

I am not aware of any pediatric dentist that will accept the medical card. DO NOT use Dr Hansen! My youngest daughter use went to the hopital last week to get all her dental work done. A few of her back molars that Hansen had filled prevouisly still had decay under the fillings that was getting in the nerves. She had to have root treatments and crowns put on. We used a ped dentist, Dr Andy Malcolm in Belvedere. Great dentist! As far as the medical card goes however, I have heard that Crusader Clinic has really good dentists.

I don't know who takes the Illinois Medical Card. I've gone to a couple pediatric dentists, though. You could try calling their offices to see if they accept the card.

Jeffery Johnson, ###-###-#### 4903 East State Street, Rockford, IL 61108 . It's just east of Alpine, on the right hand side of the road if you are heading east. (Past the McDonalds). We went there for years. They are very good with children, even special needs children. (My son has high functioning autism.) He takes very very young children. The staff is a little cold, but the dentist is warm, and very good.

I also would suggest Perry Tuneburg, ###-###-####, 4040 Morsay Dr, Rockford, IL 61107. He's on the road that runs behind Chuck E Cheese, between Fairview and Alpine. I actually like him better, though his specialty isn't just pediatrics. He works with all ages. Friendly, happy staff, and warm, friendly and funny doctor. He does a magnificent job with my special needs son. He also does quite well with me, and I'm seriously dental-phobic. My son LOVES going to the dentist, and I'm even getting much better about it, and I attribute that to entirely to Dr. Tuneberg. Any mother of an autistic child will tell you that it is often a nightmare to find a dentist for your child. It takes an incredibly patient and flexible person, and ideally one with a sense of humor. Dr. Tuneberg definately fits the bill. (And my son says he has better toys, LOL!)

I do highly recommend taking children to a dentist when they are 2-3 years old, and keep them on regular visits. I read somewhere that this was good, not only to get them started early on good dental hygiene, but also because it gets them used to the dentist, so if there is ever any problems down the road, such as a tooth gettng knocked out, going to the dentist won't be such a traumatic event. It ended up being very true in our case. My son fell into a bookcase at daycare, and took the full brunt of the fall on his teeth. It looked like someone had hit him in the mouth with a baseball bat. It was awful. I rushed him to his dentist, and the exam and treatment was no more traumatic for him than a regular exam. And he was three years old at the time. I was always thankful that we had started him early with dental exams.

Good luck!

In response to others' advice to go to Dental Dreams, I would NOT recommend anyone to go there. I went there for x-rays to be taken of my wisdom teeth and for them to be examined. While waiting I filled out the necessary paperwork as a new patient. Since I am a CNA, and have worked in a few well-known hospitals in the area, I couldn't help but to observe the employees at work. To my surprise, or better yet DISGUST, I witnessed one of the dentists performing work on a patient's tooth/teeth with a drill, and without washing his hands, downing his protective gown, or changing GLOVES he proceeded to walk over to the patient next to him and started performing work on their tooth/teeth. I was so disgusted and shocked (and worried about cross-contamination or the spreading of diseases) I immediately walked out. On my way past the reception desk, I paused and explained that I would never be returning to that dental office ever again.
