Charleston, SC. Historic, romantic, beautiful, great food. My only concern is that it might be pretty hot in June. There are some lovely islands off of the city too. Maybe stay on an island to be cooler?
Hello Moms,
My husband and I will be child free in June and we'd like to take a short trip together somewhere. We'll be taking a long weekend (Saturday - Monday). We live in the Kansas City area and we'd like to be able to get to our destination within a few hours by air. (I had suggested Seattle and my hubby pointed out that because it is so far away we'd spend most of 2 days traveling rather than enjoying.) I had thought of New Orleans, and maybe somewhere in Colorado.
Do you ladies have any ideas?
Thanks,
M.

Chicago is close it is great in june. weather is nice and loads to do.
We usually just spend a few nights acting like tourists in Chicago. It's great fun, and we enjoy spending our money on award winning restaurants. We also like going to the modern art museum.
It all depends on we hat you like to do together. We like to eat, drink and talk. Do you hike? What is your thing. Then decided where the best place might be to do said best thing.
Estes Park, Colorado (gateway to Rocky Mtn National Park); Colorado Springs, Colorado (tons of things to do!), or Yellowstone National Park (stunning beauty and wildlife)!
Also Chicago or Minneapolis.
If you want a big city get-away, I love Chicago! There is a lot to do in Denver. Minneapolis/St. Paul is also really nice.
If you want something a little smaller and more laid back, SE Minnesota has some great places. Lanesboro is know for its B&Bs and little local theatre which is fabulous. You can also rent bikes and canoes. They have great bike trails and a nice river. There is also an Amish community not far from there. Winona, Red Wing, and Northfield are also neat little towns. All are within a couple hours of Minneapolis. Or you can drive a couple hours north of Minneapolis and hit Duluth, Brainard, and Lake Superior. The only problem with going up there on a weekend in June is all the traffic headed up to their cabins.
We enjoyed visiting the Amana Colonies in Iowa, too. Lots of little wineries, B&Bs, and great restaurants.
For smaller cities, I also like Colorado Springs. The Olympic Training Center is fun to tour and you can tour the Air Force Academy. Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak are both beautiful!
Estes Park, CO would be a great mountain getaway. It would be an hour or two drive from the Denver airport. You could also do Yellowstone, but if you don't fly into Jackson Hole it would be a pretty long drive into the park. There is no way you could see all of Yellowstone in three days. You would have to pick and choose what you want to see. And you would probably want to spend a day just in Jackson.
I know of a great little vineyard in Kentucky that is not far from both Lexington and Louisville. They are both fun places to visit, too. You can also visit Makers Mark and hand dip your own bottle of bourbon.
Chicago. Flights are short and there are lots of direct flights. There are great museums, wonderful restaurants and beautiful lakefront. Great city. NYC is doable if you flight direct. New Orleans is HOT in June (I was there two years ago in June) but it was still a lot of fun. Have a great time.
My vote is Colorado!!!
Have fun!
