Long Shot - Runners Magazine Article

A friend and I were discussing kids and running the other night. I told her about an article I read in a runner's magazine (can't be sure of the magazine title :-( at the doctor's office. It talked about a young girl running and gave scientific evidence as to how much is too much and at what age. I told her I would try to track it down but a google search did not return it. At this doctor's office it was not unlikely that it was an older magazine which makes this search even more like looking for a needle in a haystack. I do not have another appoinrtment scheduled at this office but am tempted to go riffle through the magazines in their waiting room to find it. Is anyone familiar with the article and could tell me the magazine and issue?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

All Hail Tracy K!!! You ROCK! That is exactly the article. I was shocked to see it was from such a recent magazine based on this office's typical magazine selection. You helped me and my friend so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Go to runnersworld.com and look it up.

I haven't heard about the article but I am intrigued. I am a runner...but I know I have not gotten to the "too much" category yet...I need to run more.

Good luck and best wishes!!

I pulled an article from the September 2011 issue of Runners World that sounds like the one you read. It is called Family Planning. Introducing kids to running for a lifetime of healthy living. It goes thru age groups and how far to let them run. It was on page 32.

Hope this is it!!

Maybe Runner's World magazine? It would be the October issue if it was. If you go back and find it, please let us know what the article says. I would be interested to hear.

It was most likely Runner's World Magazine, not sure if it's the same article but there is an article that was written in one of the issues (4/23/07) called

Youth Movement - From preschool to high school, here's what your kids should, and shouldn't be doing, when it comes to running by Marc Bloom. Just go to runnersworld.com and do a search for the article.

Another popular running magazine is Running Times which also has a website.

Thanks for this! I've gotten back into running and my 5 year old lives it too, but I've wondered what is realistic and safe for him! I'll be checking this out.
