Loestrin Fe Birth Control Pill

I was prescribed the Loestrin Fe birth control pill two months ago and this is the second month I have been on it and have not had a period. I have taken a pregnancy test that has been negative and last month I called the nurse at my doctor's office who told me that sometimes you don't get a period when switching birth control. So, I looked online just now and it doesn't say anything about not getting any period - it says that your period lasts for three days or less on this type of pill. I am not one of those women who is comfortable being on a birth control that doesn't give me a period so I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this on Loestrin Fe. I am going to call the nurse tomorrow, but thought I'd ask to see if any of you have experienced this. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I have spoken to the nurse and she said that it is very common to not get a period on Loestrin 24 Fe. She is going to ask the doctor to switch me to Loestrin 21 Fe since I am not comfortable not getting a period. Thanks to you all for your responses!!

I am on the same pill, I have also missed some periods and I have also had some spotting in between. It doesn't make me feel any different emotionally...in fact I think it helps me feel better during some of the "lows" I can get right before my period starts. Personally I like being on this one despite the fact that my periods have been a little out of whack. Good luck!

L.,
I am a nurse who had worked in ob/gyn and can tell you that every time you do something to alter your hormones, there comes the possibility of creating irregularities in your cycle. LoEstrin is a low dose pill that can certainly cause you to miss a period every now and again. Also, when just starting a new pill, it takes your body about 3 months to adjust so during that time period you can experience bloating, spotting or no bleeding at all. There are hundreds of birth control pills out there and its hard for a doctor to know which one to pick for each patient - sometimes its just plain old trial and error. I would express your concerns to your doctor and they will advise you of your options regarding this and other birth control pills.
Hope this helps! Take care,
T.

Hi L.,

I didn't miss periods but became very depressed and broke out all over my face - it was horrible! I'm a very high energy, happy person and that pill made me feel like the world was caving in...it was obvious to family and friends. I quit taking it after about six months - only b/c my doc said to give it time. If you're not comfortable with it, I would ask for other suggestions. Good luck!

I took a form of Loestrin a few years back and also missed some periods entirely. My OB/GYN at the time acted like I was nuts when I told her I felt uncomfortable about it. :)
