Hi all - I am looking for bedroom furniture for my 7 year old daughter. I was thinking maybe something with a trundle bed. Anyone have something gently used or know where to look for the best deals on children's furniture?
I've checked craigslist but not having luck there.
Sometimes garage sales have good used beds, I would buy new mattresses though. I sold a trundle some years back and had many calls on it before it sold. Check garage sales and sometimes you can get a good deal when there are sales at stores like Nebraska furniture, etc.
craig's list is a great way to find a deal on gently used children's furniture.
Keep checking craigslist. Also check you local paper for yard sales or even flea markets. Places like Salvation Army and Goodwill also carry used furniture items. We have so many second hand stores here that you can just go for a drive and find some places with perfect items for the home.
Look around and think outside the box, ask around with family and friends let them know you are looking they may know someone who knows someone.
Look everyday and you will find something soon. Think of something you may need to strip and paint to add that girly touch.
IKEA has some good stuff. We still have the dressers that DH bought for the sks when he was first divorced. See what they ship. SD has an IKEA loft right now, but that's probably too high for a 7 yr old.
I'd also look in thrift stores and see what you can refinish if necessary or join your local Freecycle group. Just today someone was offering a small white dresser locally.
I'd get a new mattress, though. Lots of retailers sell them now and it's worth it not to worry about the history.
Children really don't need furniture geared towards kids. You can make an adult piece of furniture more child-like by adding fun knobs, pulls or paint. I'd keep checking craigslist with that in mind. There is soooo much posted on CL ... get creative!

Walmart and many stores have sales now, for beds, or child furniture.
Re trundle beds, its not real practical. A friend of mine has one for her kid and they never use it. It would be more useful to get a bed bed, or one that has drawers under it instead of a trundle bed.
Also, if you get a 2nd hand bed or mattress etc., make sure it does not have bedbugs or mites, or anything like that.
Most "kiddie" sized "furniture" are more toddler-ish in proportions. Thus, for a 7 year old, they grow quickly and may outgrown "kiddie" furniture quickly.
My son is 6 for example, and well, he already has outgrown the "kiddie" furniture we have. Thus, we are getting rid of it now.
