Who would you call if you have a creditor that will not accept the amount you can afford to pay to pay off your debt?
I have offered payments to an old student loan and the creditor told me that they can not accept the amount I offered because they can get more by guarnishing my check!
How can I get this resolved? I can't afford to have my check guarnished anymore. I can't even afford to pay rent now that they have started taking it out of my check!
I am not sure M. but I would get another job or somehow supplement your income. I show parents and others how to earn additional income along with what they currently do. I would love to help you too if I can....www.2abetterlife.com
Have a great day!

Hi M.,
I'm new to Mamasource & I was just surfing around, reading all the different issues & came across yours.
I can relate to your matter of needing legal advice & not having much finances to pay out for attorney fee's. That is why I signed up for Pre-Paid Legal, which is legal services for a small monthly fee of $26.00. I had a situation, were our Newfoundland dog jumped our fence (twice) & attacked another dog, actually biting thru his skin. Right then & there, I thought, oh no, this person can sue us. (and rightfully win!) Long story short, we gave the dog to a rescue, called my sister-in-law (who had trying for months to get us to join, she has several testimonies with it; divorce & such) and joined immediately. I was so afraid of being sued & no way to pay for attorney fee's. I also have used it for free reviews of all and any contracts we sign. With this service your also given a complimentary will for yourself. This is how it works, you pay $26.00 per month, anyone comes after you (sues) you are represented at NO cost. (this is what your dues are paid for) If you want to sue someone, you get a 25% discount from the "normal" going rate out there. My advice to you is to join, then you can call & consult an attorney for free & they can tell you what your rights are & go from there.
If you have any questions feel free to call me. My cell # ###-###-####
I also have a website, I will forward it to you after I log off of this & then go to my e-mail. I thought I had it memorized, but I dont! oops!!!
I hope this information is helpful. Okay found my website! www.prepaidlegal.com/hub/carmenmsutton

I work for a bank and I just wanted to add that you should try every other option you can before consulting a credit counseling agency. They more often than not cause more problems than they help with. Which in turn drives your credit score down even further than it may already have fallen. I would use them only as a last resort.
Ma'am if I knew WHO held your student loan I could help youbetter. I had the same issue with mine, however I have mine with Direct Loan and William D Ford... but I was able to consolidate my loans all together and lower my rates when I had William D Ford group take over my Direct Loan student loan which cleared the default and started new.. also if you are taking classes even online as a "full time" student I think its 12 hrs a week min., you can place your loans into a forebarence and deferment where you dont have to pay them untill you finish school... Contact your STATE office of Student Loans and see whatt hey say.. I hope this helps some..also for extra income, you can do what I do, its easy and FUN to do, and if you have friends or know anyone that takes care of their skin, feet, hands, legs or that is into SPA treatments, you can make extra money pretty fast. you can email me if you like, I have a few ideas on how to ease the stresses and not just with what I do for a living :) I am also an Instructor on the military base here and I teach young military couples how to make each dollar count! ____@____.com or ____@____.com

Have you thought about contacting a Credit Counseling service? It may or may not work for you but it is worth a shot. I know there are several in the area. The consolidate all your debts into one payment that you give them and stop the creditors from calling and harrassing you. Also, if there is something you pay interest on, for example a credit card, they can get the interest lowered. Otherwise, you could look into free legal aid that I think is offered my DHS and they could give you advice. If you attend a local church or know of one, they are sometimes great for financial advice. I hope and pray it works out for you. It is so sad to hear you all are suffering.

HI M.. My name is R.. I have a couple of ideas for you in regards to your student loans. You can try to apply for forbearance on your loan. Go to this website: www.slcsloanhelp.com. They explain various options that may be open to you. Another idea is to consolidate your debt. This isn't always the best choice for everyone. My husband and I had several student loans and a car loan that we needed to pay off so we consolidated our debt into one lump sum. It ended up that we paid less per month than if we paid on each individual loan. We strove thereafter to limit the debt we got into. My husband is now back in school and so our payments are deferred, but will continue when he's finished. Good luck!
And as and additional idea for income... since you are a single mom I know it can be difficult to get extra work. Have you thought about doing M. Kay? I have a friend who does it and it's hard work, but in your situation you could use anything you can! My friend just recently became a Director and got her first career car. I know once you earn a car they pay for a portion of your insurance AND you don't pay a dime for the vehicle. The commission on the sale of the product is 50%. You should look into it. If you're interested I can give you my friend's phone number or I can give her yours and she can contact you and give you more details. My email is ____@____.com

Ask to speak with a supervisor. If they won't help you, keep on going up the ladder until you've gotten to the top. If you lay out a budget for them and say exactly what you can afford, maybe they would be able to work with you to see that your payment amount is reasonable for your situation. Is there anyone that you can borrow the money from? Maybe they would let you settle in a lump sum or at least take a big payment to reduce the monthly amount you would have to pay. I ended up setting my hospital bill for about 70% of the account because I gave them a lump sum. I don't think that they are REQUIRED to accept anything less than 100%, but I don't have that much experience. Hope you get some help!

I would contact Credit Counseling Services. It's a free service and they can work with creditors for you.
