We will be going out of town and leaving our child with a close relative for several days later this year. I was thinking of getting her a new toy to help her stay busy while she is in this new space. they have lots of area out doors and she will not be hooked up to a game the hole time, she has just as much fun playing in the dirt. but she will also have to be entertained from time to time in their work space, so i thought something contained would be good. and she loves her nana and papa's kindle.
So, question is...
Do you like the leap frog device you bought your child? which one? how much did you pay?
If not, what learning device did you like???
My husband wants to get an ipad to tablet instead, but i worry she is too young to not destroy it. also, i would want to use one of those too, and i dont want to fight her for it. any thoughts on that??
my daughter is 2 and knows her letters and most numbers and shapes.

All of the Leap devices I have bought my children have not lasted past 2 years. I have bought the Quantum Pad, Leapster, and My First Leap. The cartriges can be expensive ($20-$30 each) and hard to find.
I don't know your budget, but I would go with a tablet computer of some kind- you will get more out of it and it will last much longer.

My son has the Leapster 2. He loves playing it, I hate the device itself. I think the games are good; he enjoys playing them and gets to practice and learn while doing so, but I have had nothing but problems with the thing. We have the third one because the first two shut off for no reason in the middle of playing. The Leapfrog company was nice and sent another (one was an exchange to Amazon, the other from the company), however this one is doing the same thing, and it's not only with the cartridges, it's with the downloaded game as well. My friend has different issues but also with the Leapster 2. I definitely would not recommend it!
i recentlt found a Leap Frog game at a yard sale, very fun. You can play with 1 or more players. It incorporates, letters, colors and numbers. "Letter Factory" My daughter is 15 months and loves the sounds and interactive fun. She does not understand the complete game but it is something she can grow into, I think for a 2 year old , it would be great.
We also like Sesame Street , Play-A-Sound by PI Kids. It has a pen tab and 8 books. Almost all the words in the book are labeled and when you touch the pen tab to the page, it makes animal noises and tunes and of course tell the word. Your child can play it by herself and it super easy to use. We found it at Costco but I think Amazon has it too.
My parents got my son a VTech V-Reader and he absolutely loves it! We got him a Leapfrog Tag and he hasn't played with it as much.
My daughter has had a Mobi-go since she was 3 and she loves it. Each holiday I buy her a few more games for it, and she is always excited to receive them.
We have two Leapster 2, and never had any problems - except when the batteries need to be changed which would be often if it is played a lot.
They are great!!
Why can't you take her with you!
