LB Pediatrician with Belief in Fewer Vaccines

I'm looking for a pediatrician in or near Long Beach who will accept my wishes to space out vaccinations based on Dr. Sears, The Vaccine Book. My current one rolls his eyes but I've been fortunate to space them out since I've read the book (unfortunately didn't read the book until after my baby was 6 months). She's due for her MMR at her 1 year check up and I won't allow her to have them all at once. I'm either thinking of asking for separate single shots spaced out or skipping that one all together. Please advise, much appreciated.

What can I do next?

1. Try the Dr SEars website. Docs have option to sign themselves up if they are open to staggering/ skipping, etc.

2. Carl Muchnik in Torrance is very respectful of this method. We took our daughter there for many years. He is also a big proponet of breastfeeding for exteneded years (he says if you can go two years, great!)

3. DO's aren't strict pediatriciains, but tend to be more holistic. For that reason, we know go to Dr JulieAnn Sherman in Los Alamitos and LB (across from Community hospital, Termino and PCH).

4. Ironically, we intereviewed a ped who I THINK was at Harriman on REd and Willow and he would not respect our decision not to vax, so we both said "bye bye" to each other. Can't rmember his name, but important to INTERVIEW all your docs. They are people YOU hire, so they should support your beliefs, in my opinion.

Good luck, and kudos for taking the time to educate yourself and make empowered decisions!
A.

M.,
I don't have a pediatrician but a great family doctor who is FABULOUS with our 9 week old boy. In fact, I found her on this site - about 4-5 people made the recommendation. her name is Dr. Deborah Pauer and she is located at the Los Alamitos Family Medical Group on Katella and Seal Beach Blvd. Additionally, I had questions/concerns re: vaccinations and she is totally willing to space them out - she just says it will be more inconvenient/painful for the child but if that's what we want, it's okay with her. We had one set of his shots last week and we'll go in next month. One last thing, she said the one vaccination that is the most questionable (autism) would be the MMR at 12 months. She said she would recommend getting that at 18 months so that we know our child is walking and talking.
Her number is ###-###-#### - 3460 Katella Avenue (Behind the Fish Company Retaurant)

If you don't find one who is flexible to do the Dr. Sears method, try calling or finding out about getting her vaccines through community health. They don't push shots on a schedule, just bring her vaccination card and you can do it on your schedule. Vaccines don't require a dr. to do them. Community health nursing, through schools, they will often know when and where to get them. Good luck!

Follow your gut, Mom. Do not go to any health care practitioner who does not value your decisions as a mother. Even if you didn't want to vaccinate because the planets weren't aligned at the time, the doctor should respect that...and certainly not show her/his disdain. That said, I don't have a LB contact, but my pedatrician has 3 offices. My little one and I go to the one in Aliso Viejo. I chose Dr. Jan Johnson because I interviewed her when I was pregnant to ensure I would be able to make the decisions for my baby...with her expertise as guidance of course. I selected the vaccines that were most pertinent, wouldn't change each year (like the flu virus) and had the most dire consequences of not administered. Yes, I have to remind her staff that my wee one is not getting the truckload of them each time it's shot day, but it's worth the effort and minor inconvenience for doing the right thing.

We are in the same situation almost exactly. The good
thing is my Dr just let me split the MMR and I also
told him I wanted to follow Dr Sears schedule and he said
no problem. Dr Alexander Maneffa Harriman Jones Bldg
on the corner of willow and Spring in Long Beach. Hope
this helps. I also have an HMO, Pacific Care so not sure how
it works with different insurances but its worth a try. Also
Dr Sears has a list of Dr's on his web site that are willing to work with Moms. I havent looked at the list since I have such a great Dr but its worth a try. Good luck .. you are doing the right thing for your baby. Dont stop till you find someone that will do what you want. They are out there

Dr. Carolyn Moser is our doctor (same office as Maneffa who the other person wrote about) and we're doing the Dr. Sears schedule with her. She's totally fine with it, thorough, and gentle with our baby girl. She's with Harriman Jones Medical Group and her office is on Redondo and Willow in Long Beach, phone # is ###-###-####.
