Lately My Little Girl's Rib Area Hurts When She Jumps...

My little girl just turned 4 and we bought her an 8' trampoline for her birthday.
She's only had it for 6 days and has started complaining that her rib hurts when she jumps.

I wondered if maybe she didn't like the trampoline, but that isn't it - as she always forgets that it causes this pain and excitedly gets inside to jump.

The pain only occurs when she jumps and is apparently uncomfortable enough to stop jumping.

I've already spoken with one of the Nurses at our Pediatrician's office, and was told to just monitor her until her annual appointment (which is at the end of next week), but I thought it might be in our best interest to ask other Moms.

I appreciate any and all responses.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I forgot to update this sooner... sorry about that.
Anyhow, she's jumping & fine now. We took her in for her checkup & told the doctor about her pain, & he couldn't find anything wrong - so he asked that we just watch her. All pain went away. *shrug* I have no idea why it started in the first place.

Thanks for all the advice. =)

READ all before you panic PLEASE!

years ago my oldest daughter complained that her chest hurt immensely and with heart related problems so prone in my family we whisked her to the hospital and asked questions later. the dr of course checked her heart as a precaution.

they took x-rays and all discovered it was not her heart. it just so happened that a sports medicine dr was in the ER at the time and reconized my daughter as a high school colorguard.

he came over and examined my daughter and asked her questions. he figured out that my daughter after months of tossing her flags and other colorguard equipment that her ribs connecting tissues were inflamed. NOW for your part of this message. I am sure that her arms go way up and way down repeatedly when she jumps that she could have hurt the same tissues that my daughter did---- her's was helped with a regiment of antibotics.
ask the dr to check that when he examines her

if this happens to be tha case or even a pulled muscle that other mothers suggested. get her to learn the importance of stretching before she goes on the trampoline.

a note to my daughter's issue. in the summer between her sophomore and junior year she discovered yoga and used that to stretch in fact after her high school career of colorguard she was an instructor for several years and she used yoga with her students and she never had muscle related injuries in the 6 years she was an instructor.

When I was young, I started having rib pain when I breathed in. The docs said it was from the tissue in between my ribs twisting. Maybe your daughter's rib tissue is "twisting" when she jumps. If this is it, yes, it is painful. But it goes away and causes no real harm. Other than that, I have no idea what it could be.

Hi K.,
You said she has only had it for 6 days. I am wondering if she has excerized some muscles that she wouldn't normally be excerizing becasue it is something new she is doing. If the pain doesn't go away in a reasonable amount of time I would get her to the doctor.

I am sure it is just a pulled muscle - I play soccer and sometimes after a game I Swear I've seriously hurt something in / around my ribs... but it goes away within a week. If she's jumping everyday, she's pulling / stretching that muscle everyday, so that's maybe why the pain hasn't subsided yet. Ask if it could just be a pulled muscle, in which continuing to jump will not be harmful, may actually strengthen it, but ask if it could be something else - like her spleen or a hernia? (which would hurt All the time, not just when jumping, but you never know - "better safe than sorry"). I hope she feels better soon and that it is not anything other than muscle discomfort!
