Hi Mamas out there! I am having my fallopian tube (and possibly an ovary) removed in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if anyone else has had this done laproscopically? I'm curious about the recovery, etc. Thanks for any insight!!

What can I do next?

Hi R.,

I agree with everything the other ladies wrote. I had both tubes removed during two separate laparoscopic procedures, and my recovery time was one or two days of bed rest while using the pain pills they prescribed, and then a couple of weeks of no heavy lifting / generally taking it easy on myself. The only other piece of advice that I can add is that I had gas pains for a week or two after the surgery...my abdomen would get really crampy and sometimes have sharp, shooting pains. I found that I needed to walk regularly, even if it was just around my house, to get the gas moving internally. If I sat still too long, I would get the gas pains. Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Hello I had my Left fallopian tube removed due to an ectopic pregnancy. They did it laproscopically. The worst part is the gas that they have to use. You will feel lots of pressure for a few days till it all comes out. It will feel like you have an elephant on your shoulders. You will be a little sore but it is not that bad. The sooner you get up to move around the better off you will be. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi R.!
I had my left tube removed several years ago. I was doing IVF at the time and they thought it was causing a problem with my procedures. The surgery was pretty short--thank goodness for laproscopy! In the old days, you would end up with a big scar and a lot more recovery time. They made three little incisions, one on each side of my stomach and one right on the top of my belly button. (It's been several years and you can barely see them now.) The recovery time is about two weeks. I would say the worst part is that you feel like someone has punched you in the stomach really hard for a few days, and you will also have some back pain. I found it difficult to get out of bed for a few days, so you might want to have someone take care of the kids (and take care of you!) It's a good time to get some rest in bed and have someone take care of you for a change!! LOL I don't have any long-term side effects or pain now, but they didn't remove my ovary--so I don't know if that will require any hormone replacement therapy afterward. I wish you the best of luck!! :)

R., I had mine on the right removed a few years ago after it was discovered that my ovary, having had a pregnancy in it before that, was in bad shape. Plus, all the IVF treatment was doing a number on it. It was maybe a 7 day recuperation for me. I still have my left one, so there's no therapy needed, thankfully. Also, you're going to have gas put in your belly area, so your shoulders may hurt as the gas escapes, post-surgery. It's not a big deal since you'll already be dealing with your stomach feeling uncomfortable. One thing that you need to remember is to take it easy & know that where the scar is will be tingly for a few months as the little nerves & such get back together, though you'll be able to get back to your normal life well before that.

Good luck to you!
G.
