I actually had a coupon and got the flavor packet free, I had a can of white bettty crocker vanilla frosting in the pantry, I just read the directions on the flavor packet that it needs to be mixed with the "DUNCAN Heinze flavor STARTER Frosting".

Of course i'ts 9 :30at night and i'm baking them for DS's school snack tomorrow.

CAn i use the flavor packet ( It's orange creamsicle) with reg frosting? or should i not waste a can of frosting and just send them in plain??
SWH tried it with reg, worked fine, orange creme and chocolate Holy mama, it was soooo delish, good thing most of them were going to school because I would have eatend them ALL. This will be a special treat type thing but i would definately pay for it every once in a while.

the freak out was probably because i've been doing science experiments all week and was expecting a chemical reaction, lol. thanks!!!

has anyone used this and can you help me out??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Since it was free, for a treat, i let DS pick it out, and his school colors are actually blue and orange so has excited to have orange (colored) flavored frosting. He is in bed and while it isn't earth shattering, he would be disappointed to wake up and have plain brownies, and not orange frosted. I leave for work before he gets up so i won't be there to explain it.

so i think i'll give it a shot, I just hated to waste it if there was a real reason for it needing the starter, what ever that is.

I'd still love to hear if people have tried it and hated it or what ever.

well I just read some reviews of the frosting....and most people hated it, but liked it when they added it to REGULAR frosting, not the starter frosting. They said the starter frosting was drippy and runny, and wasn't with regular frosting. So I'd say, go for it!

It actually works better in other brands, not the Duncan Hines. It was runny almost when I used the packet with it. I bought another packet and different frosting and it was fine. The packet is powder so it must just be the DH brand of frosting that is runny.

The orange on chocolate brownies sounds yummy!

If it's not too late, do you have any food coloring? Mix red and yellow food coloring into the white frosting instead and it'll come out orange.

Otherwise, I'd be pretty surprised if it didn't work using the flavor packet. My guess is that's just Duncan Hines' way of getting you to buy both parts. It's like when the instructions on the pasta package tell you to use the same brand of sauce when making your dish.

Maybe try a little with a scoop of the frosting and see how it works, if not, do you have any food coloring? You could just do a red/yellow to get orange if the packet does not work.

Wait until the morning to frost them. It will give you time to think about it and they need to cool off anyway.

The regular plain is all i use on cupcakes (i have never heard of flavor packets for the can frosting). Also, frosting is pretty easy to make, but i notice when my friend makes her healthier home made kind the kids do not eat it. I like brownies brown (no extra frosting), but kids will love frosting.

I have not tried it.
But I wouldn't put orange creamsicle frosting on brownies!
Is it good?

We tried the flavor packet with the frosting that went with it, it was soooo gross my 10 year old even hated it. We had the cotton candy flavor and ended up throwing away the frosting. I'm so glad we tasted it before putting it on anything. The taste was very chemical, certainly not natural.

I have never used it...I would probably send them with just the vanilla frosting...what is wrong with plain frosting?? ;-) No fancy flavors needed in my house!
