K.B.
My first thought is that it is spelled wrong. My second thought is that it is a boy's name spelled wrong.
Kristian for a boy or girl or either one? what's your first thought when you see it?
just a question. not planning on naming him/her with the name. a friend told me they loved it and wanted to hear what yall think. my husband sister passed away stillbirth and her name was christina/kristina. don't want to cause hurt feelings.love the name though.
My first thought is that it is spelled wrong. My second thought is that it is a boy's name spelled wrong.
Girl.
Since it is with a "K."
It also looks like "Kristin."
Of which, there are many girls at my son's school, named that.
And even at that, many people mispronounce, it.
Or pronounce it as "Kris-ti-ann."
If you spell it as "Kristian," there will probably be a lot of confusion. About gender and about pronunciation.
Trying to be different and changing the letter it is spelled with, is obvious.
And the Teachers, will notice too.
Is this name supposed to be pronounced Kris-ten, Kris-ti-an, or Kris-chen?
The spelling looks masculine to ME, but what do I know?
First thought is that mommy doesn't know how to spell.
Christian is a boy's name.
Kristin is a girl's name.
Kristian is a made-up misspelling that will confuse everyone.
If you spell it that way .... As a teacher my instinct would be that it's a girl called Kristen
If you want it for a boy.... Spell it Christain
I've only see 1 boy with that name in our elementary school.
No offense intended but it comes across as a feminine name.
Think about this name being used all through adulthood and into elderly years and if you still like it go for it.
Bottom line is your child, your choice . I would make every effort not to use a name with cutesy spellings and pronouncians because that's just one more thing they have to deal with growing up... Constant misspelling and pronunciation.
Of course you could be like ex playmate Holly Madison and go with Rainbow Aurora... I feel for that kid !!
Looks like a girls name but I think you are going for Christian, right? Why try to be all fakey creative? Christian is an awesome boy's name.
I had a really good friend named Kristian, and she hated it. First because people always confused it with Kristin and Kristine. Second because her parents were very religious and she ended up being atheist. Third, she hated the spelling because she said that it looked like her parents were illiterate or trying to be cute.
She went purely by Krissy. I was sworn to secrecy about her full name when she met guys. She wouldn't even show boyfriends her license. She was planning a name change, actually.
If you use Christian, I would use Christian. Don't go all cutesy poo with the spelling. It's a gender neutral name. The letters you use to misspell it don't make it more masculine or feminine. The nickname you use can help let people know how masculine or feminine it is. Or the middle name you use.
EDIT: This wasn't high school. This was college age and past college age. I've touched base with her within the past few years and she still feels the same way (she's in her early 40's now).
My thought when I saw it was that you were trying to spell Kristi Ann, which is totally a girls name. If you are trying to go for a female version of Chistian, I think you will run into a lot of problems and confusion. Christian, no matter how you spell is, is a boys name, in my opinion. Would Kristin be a possibility? Just a though.
Good luck in fining a name that fits for you!
Boy. But either way, it will be mispronounced as K. or misspelled as Christian. Why not make things simple and name a boy Christian or a girl Christine or Christina...or K..
Boys name but I would spell it correctly with a C. It looks odd with a K sorry.
My first thought, is it's spelled wrong. (At least, it's not typically spelled that way in America.) If you didn't want the child to be called Kristen, or other variations, it's probably a good idea to go with the traditional American spelling. (Unless there is heritage significance.)
Christian is a boys name, in my opinion.
My first thought is you misspelled Christian which is a boys name, the girls name would be Christine.
Seriously there are quite a few names that actually start with the letter K, why are you so bent on taking a C name and making it K?
Boy. It is the traditional Scandinavian spelling - NOT a made up name. The English/American name is Christian. The feminine is Kristina/Christine/Christina/Kirsten or other variations.
I think of Christian as a boy's name only. I don't think that putting a K in the front makes it a girl's name, it just makes it look funny. Sorry. I wouldn't spell it with a K for either gender
Kristian = Christian = Boy name
Girl version = Kristina or Kristin
I have not read any other answers so forgive me if I am repeating anything, but to me, "Christian" is a boy's name, and spelling it with a K makes it look more feminine. Not to mention that if a boy is named Kristian, he will spend his whole life correcting people when it gets spelled Christian, or having people do a double-take when they see the printed name first, and expect to see a girl when they meet him in person. People trying to get creative with the spelling of names - not because of culture/heritage, but just to be "different" - just irks me!
Christian is a boy's name.
Your suggested spelling of the name would make me think of a girl's name because you are spelling it very much like Kristin.
If I hear it, I would think boy. If I see it, I'd think you spelled Kristina wrong.
My brother's name is Kristian. He and I are separately adopted, and my parents knew his heritage was Norwegian, which I think spells it that way, so they named him that.
**OK, I just scrolled down to read some responses and um...really? We grew up in rural Colorado in the 70's way before all the loopy doopy hipster names now became popular and no one ever had a problem with it or made fun of him for it-and this was in a population of bikers and working class people. Everyone knew how to pronounce it, and when he said it was "with a K" people got it. Whenever anyone asked my mom "politely" why it had a K, she said it was Norwegian (my bro had platinum white hair). There is nothing controversial or wrong with the name. Why are American so freaking narrow except when it comes to naming their kids...well don't even get me started on some of the trashy names out there....half the kids at our local park sound like future strippers....
K=girl (Kristin/Kirsten/Krista)
Christian = boy
Kristian= an attempt to feminize a masculine name in a new way?
...my first impression
Good luck with the naming process - it can be so hard! :D
Boy, but spelled Christian or Kristjan (slavic spelling).
only people ive ever known with that name were boys.. but i was always spelled with a C
When I see the "K", I immediately think of a girl.
I would use a "C" for a boy's name.
Looking at it, the K throws me off and makes me think "Kristin" which is a girl's name.
But saying it "Christian", is a boy.
First thought?
Your child, whether it's a boy or a girl, will spend the rest of his/her life correcting the spelling of his/her name.
Don't burden your kid with that, just spell it Christian, as most people know it.
Your child will be special and unique, but the spelling of his/her name doesn't need to be.
(oh, and with a K it seems more girly to me, for whatever reason)
It can be either. There are a lot of names now that are used for boys and girls. I suggest this is one of them. I'd hesitate to spell it this way, tho because it will just cause more confusion for your child. People will mis-spell it and constantly ask how to spell it.
Christian is a boy's name. Is your spelling for a boy of girl? If it's for a girl, please don't be one of the people that feminizes a boys name and ruins it forever. If it's for a boy, please go with the traditional spelling.
I would spell it the normal way, Christian. Putting a K first to get creative only means that the child will have to deal with everyone spelling their name wrong for the rest of their life. and to me it is more of a boys name. I know two Christians and they are both men.
Two thoughts. They either don't know how to spell Christian and the poor boy will hate his feminine name for the rest of his life or someone screwed up when typing up the birth certificate and incorrectly put that in for Kristina. Either way - first thought - poor child.
I would know the name is Kristian (Christian) but I wouldn't know if I was going to see a boy or a girl!
I think it looks more feminine...but that's just me. I went to school with a girl named Ryan and a boy named Faith...
Pronounced Chris TIN (like the metal)? Girls name! Kristian spelling is kind of confusing I know a Kristin and Keristin (kear s tin ) but the "i" after the "t" is making me wonder if I am saying it correctly.
But Tristan from the movie tristan and isolde is a male name but put a K and remove the T you have a girls name
Personally, I agree with the responses that this name should be spelled w/ a "C."
Christian is a boys name.
I don't think Christian sounds like Kristen. I guess that's because it's my first name. All the kids I know w/ the name Christian are boys.
One boy I know tells people that his name is Christian and that he is a Christian.
I see that a couple of people said it is a traditional Scandanavian name, so I will "forgive" the unusual spelling and recognize it for what it is.
However, not knowing it's roots, I would honestly not know what to expect - boy or girl - if I saw that name. I would wonder why it wasn't Christian, Kristen, or Kristine.
At first glance I thought you wrote "Kristin". I think you're going to get a lot of that if you name your child Kristian. That will mean lots of correcting and lots of spelling the name for people. If you use the name for a boy, kids might tease him and call him "Kristian'. Instead, just spell the name the normal way "Christian". Most likely, people will call him Chris. I don't recall any girls with the name Christian...
I don't like having to spell my name for people - I've had to do it all my life. I didn't want to have to do it for my kids either. I even dropped the idea of naming my son Philip because I would be forever answering the question "does it have one "l" or two?".
Dawn
With a K, it *could* be for a girl... but it's originally a boy's name: Christian.
With the spelling, it's more of a girl's name. Kristian Alfonso from Days of Our Lives comes to mind.
Girl since it's a version of Kristina. That's a girls name for sure.
Think of Kristian Alfonso, she has played Hope Williams Brady on Days of Our Lives for years and years and years. So if you have a girl it could be spelled like hers.
Now if it was spelled traditionally with the "C" it would be more masculine.
K is a girl.
and my first thought is it's spelled wrong.
In my Scandananavian family... That's a boys name.
I think that Kristian is someone trying to spell Christian but more for a girl. Although Kristian or Christian I have know both and they were all boys. But I still think its a boys name
K makes it feminine, IMO.
I think spelled with a 'K' its a girls name.
Christian is a boys name.
