I'm planning to buy my own soon and I'm debating between kindle or nook. I've heard some say the nook is crappy, but others say it's better than a kindle. Which one?

What can I do next?

I have a Nook Color, and I love it. I haven't ever really used a Kindle, so I can't compare. From everything I read in trying to decide, it's really 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

I chose the Nook because there is a Barnes and Noble in town, and the Nook people there are great at answering questions. I love being able to just drive over there and tell them what isn't working or what I need it to do.

It has space for an external disk, so you can store extra books or movies there. If you go to Barnes and Noble with it, you can read any book in the store on your Nook.

I already had some epub books and can read them on my Nook. It was my understanding that Kindles can only read Amazon books.

I'm happy with my Nook.

I love my Kindle! I really can't say anything about a Nook, since I've never used one. (I have a Kindle Touch.)

You might want to look at the costs of the different books you might want.. I don't know if they are different from one e-reader to another...

As far as downloading books, my hubby found a program that can convert a book from one format to other formats.

There are many online reviews where folks have both in front of them, the above reviews the simple readers.

I love my Nook. I bought the small one with black letters on white page. The small ones (both Kindle and Nook) are the only ones with the eInk technology that is easy on the eyes. The larger Nooks and Kindles are really small tablet computers with standard lighted screens, not so easy on the eyse for reading for a long time, but better for other things like surfing the web via wifi.
Besides the eInk that saves battery life since it is not a constantly "on" screen (there is just a page dump onto the screen that stays there until you advance the page) I actually bought it for the small format so I can have it in my purse at all time. At first I searched the Barnes & Noble website for Nook books that were free and downloaded a bunch of older books that are no longer copyrighted. They also have a category <$5 books. But I have also bought quite a few new books for around $12 - $15 that reside on my Nook and my B&N account. I washed my very first nook, I put it on top of the laundry basket to carry everything down and then later dumped the whole load plus the Nook in the washer. Needless to say it did not work after the wash so I got another since I had the $25/year B&N replacement warranty. A good thing to get in my opinion for the smaller readers, as long as you can bring some part of it back they give you a new one.
I LOVE that I can read a 600 page book (Life by Keith Richards for instance, plus a 10 book series on King Arhur) and it weighs no more than the few ounces that the Nook weighs.

My daughter & I love our NOOK Tablet! I've never used a Kindle, but from what I've heard & the research that I've done, they are pretty comparable. However, if you live near a Barnes & Noble and want in-person, great/helpful support, I would choose the NOOK. Our Barnes& Noble also has 'NOOK classes' from time to time.

I can't respond to the nook or other kindle devices, but I have a kindle fire and I love it. It is easy to use, I love that I can borrow a book a month and I love everything about it. I think it likely depends on your needs which is better for you. I did a lot of research online before buying the kindle comparing them all and thinking about how i needed it. It was the perfect device or me. But I have a friend that has a nook and it is perfect for him, but his needs and uses are different than mine. I would suggest making a list of how you will use it and then go some of the pages that compare them and keep in mind your list as you read tham. Good luck with your purchase!
