Kindle for Kids Bundle?

Hi!

So I'm considering this for my daughter, who will be 10 if/when she receives it. I like that it's just the e-reader (no internet, games, advertisements etc). She is a good reader, and I think would use it. I have the Kindle app on my tablet and love it.

I don't like that each book she reads on it will need to be purchased. Since no internet, no connection to our libraries eBook program (not that it's very robust anyway).

I'm thinking it would be great for her, once she is reading longer more in-depth books.

Do your kids have an eReader? Do they and you like it?

TIA!

What can I do next?

I have a kindle and love it. My kids like to read so we downloaded the kindle app on both their iPads. They won't use them, at all. Say they hate reading on the tablet, they prefer real books. So I would suggest you get some books for her on your kindle and see if she likes reading on it before you buy her one.

ETA - I highly recommend BookBub - it's a service you sign up for and they send you daily emails of cheap (free - $2) books based on your preferences that you can get from Amazon or the Apple store (others too, those are just the only ones I use).

Both my daughters have kindles and love them. I never mind buying books so they have free reign to purchase whatever they want to read.

My 12 year old is really into fan fiction though which is free.😊

We are a 3 Kindle eReader family - I have one, DH has one, and my 8 year old has one - all eReaders only. We love them. My son's is a very old version (bought cheap on Craiglist) and it does not have WiFi. However, it doesn't matter. We can still download the books from the public library and transfer them to the Kindle using the USB port.

My kindle eReader will access the internet only to connect with Amazon to download books (including library books, which sync to my Amazon account), even though there is no internet browser. If you are buying a new Kindle for your daughter, I think it will work this way.

I have a kindle paperwhite. It is just an e-reader, without being able to surf the web, access the internet, play games, etc. However, it still connects to WiFi and accesses its books through Amazon. I am able to use my library's e-book system (overdrive).

When I want a book from the library, I go into overdrive, find the book, and click a "download" button, choosing Kindle as my option. Then, I go on the computer or on my phone to the Amazon website, where I log in to "manage my kindle" (or something like that) and click "get book." Once I go back ot my kindle, as long as it is connected to the WiFi, it gets the book transferred directly from Amazon.

So, you do not need internet on the kindle, as it all happens on the computer/phone/table and then just gets transferred to the kindle. if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can also get some free books from that.

I have a Kobo eReader and I download books from the library to my laptop and transfer them to the eReader. In three years I have only purchased one ebook. My kids don't have eReaders. They tend to read books from the library, buy books second hand and receive books as gifts.

It actually will access the internet, but not really to surf. If your library has Overdrive for e-books, it will work.
