Hello moms, I'm at my wits end with all of this and I just want it to stop. Well it started shortly after school started, we have our business phone # on the back of both my and my husband's truck. Right down the street from my daughter's school there are a group of high school kids that call that # and say some nasty stuff, like I'm going to kick your a... If you get what I'm trying to say. Thats just a little of what they are saying. Its been worse. So i called the cops and they are investigating it. The cops at high school know about it. They told me that they have talked to all the kids and no one is saying anything. Of course. We have to answer our phone cause its our business. The bus that they ride goes in front of my house. It's been scary and I have even tried to go a different way to take her to school. It doesn't matter, they still call. I just don't know what to do. This has changed our lives. This has not happened until this year. Can anyone give me some advice. I'm a stay at home mom with a little one. So I'm so afraid that something will happen while its just me and him, or when we are gone. Everyday is hard to go through cause some punks want to keep messing with us. I just want it to go back to the way it was before they started calling. Sorry for the long letter, I just don't know what to do. Thanks for time. P.S. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM? WHAT DID YOU DO? O.. I FOR GOT WHEN THEY CALL NO # COMES UP SO WE CANT CALL IT BACK. WE HAVE A BUSINESS LADY THAT WHEN SHE CALLS IT DOES THAT TO SO WE HAVE TO ANSWER IT. THE ONLY WAY WE CAN GET THEM TO HAND OVER THERE CELL BILL IS IF ITS A LIFE THREATING THING. WELL WHEN THEY SAID THE WERE GOING TO GET MY KIDS TO ISN'T THAT LIFE THREATENING? HOW FARE IS THIS GOING TO GO. I DON'T WANT THE THREATS TO COME TO LIFE. SHOULD JUST STOP THE COPS AND HOPE THE KIDS WILL STOP? DO I GET A HOLD OF THE NEWS TO SEE IF THEY COULD DO SOMETHING. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. MY HANDS ARE TIED AND I DON'T LIKE IT. WE CANT MOVE, WE OUR BUYING OUR HOUSE. AND WELL WE WERE HEAR FIRST. SORRY FOR THE LONG P.S.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well thanks yall for all your help, so far the calls have stopped and the case is still open. The officer says he will keep it open until they find them. We did get there voices on tape so we think that is what scared them to stop. I hope its all over. Keep your fingers crossed. =)

I would call the phone company and tell them about it and see if there is anyway they can trace the calls or find out where they are calling from. Or at least find out what you legally have to do to have them trace the calls and get the origin of the numbers. In this day and age I can't imagine there is no way to find the number of who is calling even when they come up with no number. Also, I don't know if you have done this, but record the calls hand them over to the police and keep on the police. This is harassment and they should be able to do more than investigate. If anything they should be able to trace the calls or record them and find out where they are coming from. Also Let the business lady know that you are having some issues and to leave a message with her number and you can call her back so you don't have to answer the phone. You don't have to go into detail with the lady, just make her aware there is something going on and you are taking care of it and in the meantime that is how it will have to be. If it is kids, they will eventually get bored and things will get back to normal but if you keep answering and reacting to them they will keep on. Hope you get some relief soon.

Dear T.:
I would record those calls, so you have a voice sample to take to the police. They won't do much, of course, but at least you have evidence. You may also use it to play it to the teachers your kids' school - perhaps they recognize the voice.

If all else fails, get a whistle. Try to keep them on the phone for a bit and lower your voice as you speak. They'll have to listen more closely. Now blow the whistle full force. It will give them a nice ring in their ears.

Regards,
W.

We had a similar situation a year or so ago except out caller called at 2am, made vile remarks in a weird voice, then hung up. I finally called the police and made a report when they called when my husband was out of town and it occurred to me that they could easily find out where I lived if they didn't already know. The police instructed us to dial a code on the phone after we received the call we wanted traced, then give the operator the police case number. The phone company would not tell us what number was calling us because it was a cell phone, all they could do was report it to the police (we didn't have caller ID at the time). After about 5 traced calls, I was told the problem was solved, and it has never happened again. Unfortunately, we were never told who the caller was, whether or not they had meant to call us or thought they were calling someone else (we get quite a few wrong numbers at our house), or what became of the caller. All we know is that the calls finally stopped. If I could remember what the call tracing code was I would pass it on. Call the phone company and explain that someone is consistently calling your business line with threats and obscene comments and ask how you can have the call traced. It would help if you could provide them with the case number as well. Hope this gets resolved quickly, and I'm sorry its happening to you. Its a shame that those who are doing the wrong thing seem to have more rights than those of us who are minding our own business and trying to make a living!

This happened to me on my cell phone a few years ago.

I tried filing a case with the police. They never returned my calls. The phone company wasn't any help either.

Here's what I did:
Because the number was displayed, I gave the caller their own ring tone, so I knew exactly when they called. (They would keeping calling at random hours, even when I politely asked then to stop.) I did document every call - time, length of call, if I answered, what was said.

Finally, I had my husband answer the phone stating "***** Police Department. This call is being monitored."

Fortunately, they never called after that.

First thing is not to show or have fear for anyone. They will continue if they know you are fearful. Tell them to come on over you 've got something for them. Tell them you can't wait for them to come and besure to put out there best effort. Tell them you are ready for anything. Once they see you don't care and you are not worried they will stop.

I would absolutely record these phone conversations. Get a cheap cassette tape voice recorder and use a speakerphone. Texas is a "one party" state, meaning that only one of the parties(you, in this case) involved in the conversation need to know that the call is being recorded. You do NOT need to give the caller notification that you are recording the call and these calls CAN legally be used in court. If you have a chance before picking up the phone, turn on the recorder while it is ringing and state the date and time of the call before answering. Record several calls and turn them over to the police. Good luck!

Is the number that the kids are calling from popping up on your caller ID? Because if it is, I would just block the number and then they can't call you. And if they call from another phone, then I'd block that number, too. Do you know the kids who are doing it and where they live? If so, go talk to their parents. And, if not, I would try to go up to the h.s. and find out if there's any way the principal could set up a conference with you and the parents. I would be horrified if my son ever did anything like that when he gets older- trust me, there'd be hell to pay in my house!Either way, it seems to me like the kids are enjoying getting a rise out of you, but if you "fight" back, then, hopefully, it'll stop. You shouldn't have to be afraid to be at your own house! I'm sorry this has happened to you and good luck!

Have you tried *69 to return the call and find out who it is?
Can you forward the calls to another phone with an answering machine so you have some proof for the cops to listen to?

Call the phone compamy. There is a something that you can put on your phone where if someone calls and it says "private #" "caller unknow" then your phone doesn't accept it. We have it. The people calling us have to take their caller block off so it our won't block it. Good Luck! It works wonders!
