My son started getting High Five when he was three you dont need to wait till they're reading there are things to cut and play etc
I want to get my 4 and 5 year olds a magazine subscription. Kids love to get mail! Any reccomendations?
I've been to all the websites for these mentioned and took the content and price into consideration. Since I have a boy and a girl I ned to stay gender neutral. I think I'm going to start with Your Big Backyard for 6 months to a year and then move up to High 5 once the kids are reading. Thanks for all your ideas. Let me know if you think of anything else.

My 5 year old dd gets "Highlights High Five" and "Your Big Backyard" (National Wildlife Federation). They are both GREAT magazines, perfect for this age, and she loves getting them.
I'll second the Lego magazine. My 2 boys get that and love to look at the ideas in it.
My girls who are 16 and 14 still love Family Fun magazine by Disney. (www.familyfun.com) We have taken it for about 12 years, and have kept every issue. We constantly reference them for craft ideas, birthday party ideas, even kid friendly recipes and travel ideas. It is a magazine that Mom will even enjoy. I believe a one year subscription is $16. Because it is a Disney magazine, there is a lot of advertising for Disney venues, but not articles promoting Disney. They always do book, toy, video game, movie reviews by age. Another favorite magazine for older kids is Kids Discover though my girls even enjoyed that when they were young. Ranger Rick and National Geographic for Kids and Your Big Backyard are also good choices. Hope this helps.
heres a couple i didnt see mentioned already. Chirp, Chickadee and Owl magazines. they go up in age. chirp is for little kids, chickadee a little older and finally owl. my son is 13 and still enjoys reading both chickadee and owl.
My 4 year old gets Highlights Puzzle Buzz, she loves it!!! It is filled with so many puzzles just for her age. We also get Highlights high five, and she really doesn't care about it too much.
My daughter (she is 9 though) gets the National Geographic Kids magazine and also the Lego magazine. She loves them both and gets very excited when she gets them in the mail.
I think Disney and Nickelodeon Jr. have magazines for that age range too.
My five year old also gets Highlights High Five. We love it!
That's a great idea! They will look forward to it coming each month. You might also check to see if your local library has children's magazines. Then you could take them and see if any other magazines draw their interest.
Your kids may be a little young, but I love "National Geographic Kids". They've recently introduced "National Geographic Little Kids".
"Your Big Backyard" is also a good choice.
Hi!
What a great question! My kids are a little older so American Girl would not be appropriate (if you have girls) just yet. However, I looked up magazines for kids and found this site. http://www.allyoucanread.com/top-10-kids-magazines/
Hope it helps!

All of the suggestions are what I would have said. These are all great magazines.
