I have been looking for an IQ test for my 5 year old. I want to know what areas I should work on her with. Does any one know of a web site for a totally free kids IQ test?

....Ok is there any free web site for home schooling? My daughter is in school but at the same time I don't want to give all the resposibility to the school and would like to maybe take a subject a day and do an activity. Then maybe a test to see how she is doing compared to the grade she is in.

What can I do next?

I would work on everything with her and not worry about her IQ. Even children with a severe learning disability can have a very high IQ. Henry Winkler is dysexic and has a Master's Degree from Yale. Bill Gates has Aspergers and he's brilliant.

IQ is not measured by MENSA until a child is 14. At that time you have to take one of the tests MENSA requires, which all cost.
You can take the Weschlers, the Stanford-Binet or the Woodcock Johnson. Not much else out there is going to give you a true IQ and not much before 14 is really reliable.

Work on prereading and reading. If your child at 5 is reading at a 5th or 6th grade level then you have a very bright student, possibly highly gifted. If she is reading at the Kinder/1st/2nd grade level then she is bright but average.
Work on math skills. Can she multiply? Can she divide? How fast does she get math concepts?
Work on patterns, complex patterns, introduce fractions and decimals, introduce pi and formulas.
Introduce a foreign language, Spanish, Latin, French, Italian, Chinese.
Get nonfiction books from the library that are at her level. Fiction at a junior high level for a 5 year old has too many cultural inuendos she will not understand. You will have to read the fiction books before you give them to her.
Give her life experiences. Take her to museums, zoos, aquariums. Take her camping and teach her about the different plants from your area. Teach her how to fish, light a fire, operate a boat motor.
All of these things you can't teach her tomorrow, but introduce her to as many new experiences as you an.
Kids who are profoundy gifted get bored really fast. They also learn really fast. You shouldn't have to show her more than once how to do something and she'll get it.
I wouldn't worry about IQ tests. What she will get from all that is that she is smarter than everyone else. This breeds arrogance and in a preteen that's not pretty.

An IQ test won't identify areas that need more work. It will only tell you her capacity for learning. Some of the home school moms might be able to share info on how to assess her strengths and weaknesses in specific areas, or do a google search using those kinds of key words instead of "IQ".

I think if you just sit and work with her enough you'll learn what she's good at and what could use some attention. My 5 year old is great at reading, but is lacking in the simple math. So we practice math using m&m's. Then as a treat he can snack on them when he's done. But flash cards directed toward her age group are useful. Even some puzzles would be an idea. There are many different ways to learn where your child is at rather than an online site. Those sites don't really know your child like you do. You are the only one who can accurately determine where she is. And you will have more fun working and playing with her and watching her grow.

Hope that helps :o)

IQ tests don't test things to work on, they test natural talents. It is kinda like finding out your child's learning style. If they learn through motion best and reading worse, you don't MAKE them learn to learn through reading. It is self defeating... and will only frustrate the child and the teacher. You can't MAKE a child any different than what they are...

I agree with other posters, IQ is not what you are looking for! I would talk to her teacher, or look at her report cards if you really want to work on areas where she is not as strong.

As for ideas for activities to do at home, there are literally thousands of homeschooling blogs out there. If you google "homeschool blog" or "kindergarten homeschool blog" you will find tons of resources, including printable activity sheets, activities to tie in to specific books, crafts for holidays/seasons, and different types of learning activities that all tie into a theme (for instance, around St. Patrick's Day, many blogs had TONS of ideas for activities using rainbows). Good luck!!
