Kid's Christmas Party

My son's Pre-K class is having a Christmas party in a couple of weeks. I, being a sucker, volunteered to help out in whatever way I could. The teacher assigned me to bring a dessert. My first thought was Christmas Cookies, easy, seasonal, etc. Then I got to looking at the plans for the party and discovered that we will be decorating Christmas cookies at the party so that's out. Now I need a somewhat easy, not too messy idea for something I can whip up that will please 15 Pre-K and Kindergarten age kids. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I like the Rice Kripie idea. I think around Christmas time they sell rice kripies with red and green too.

Another idea would be jigglers. Basically jello that is cut out with cookie cutters. I loved these as a kid! You could even bring the jello premade in baking pans/ casserole dishes, bring cookie cutters, let the kids choose the cookie cutter they want, and let them cut the jigglers out them selves.

Here are a few fun ones, hope they help:

SNOWMAN CUPCAKES
RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
Cooled cupcake (baked from your favorite recipe)
White icing
Large marshmallows
Waxed paper
Pretzel sticks
Decorators' gel
Orange slice candy
Junior Mints
Thin Mints
Fruit leather
1. Frost a cooled cupcake (baked from your favorite recipe) with white icing.

2. Flatten a large marshmallow on waxed paper with the palm of your hand. Cut a second marshmallow in half horizontally, then stack the halves on the first marshmallow to form a torso and head.

3. Push a thin pretzel stick down through the snowman (this will help him stand up), then set him on the cupcake.

4. Use decorators' gel to create a mouth, eyes, and buttons, then add pretzel stick arms and a wedge cut from an orange slice candy for a nose.

5. Accessorize with a candy hat (a Junior Mint secured to a Thin Mint with icing) and a fruit leather scarf.

ORNAMENT CUPCAKES
RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
Cupcakes
Colorful frosting
Red and green candy such as M&Ms
Mini Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
Pretzels
1. To make them, frost a batch of cooled cupcakes (baked from your favorite recipe) with colorful frosting.

2. Decorate with festive icing and candies (we used red and green M&Ms Minis), then top each one with a miniature Reeses Peanut Butter Cup and a pretzel piece for an ornament hanger. Don't forget to save one for Santa.

My kids always love to help with these..Hope this helps you a little..

Ok... so this suggestion is cheating a little but it sure makes things alot more simple as things really can get a bit stressful this time of year.

Pillsbury has "canned" Christmas cookies (in your grocery's refrigerated section) with a seasonal design inside. Basically, buy, preheat, slice, place on pan, cook, cool. Be careful to not overcook. The kiddos will love it and there are so many festive shapes. You could do a gingerbread cookie too for a little contrast if you wanted.

If you felt like that may be too many cookies, you could always do just regular muffins, any flavors. I would probably stay away from the cupcakes just because I personally don't want to have to wash all those little hands with icing all over them and then wash everything else because it has icing all over it. But, there is definitly a time and place for them!

Brownies work great too and are festive looking with just a light sprinkle of "snow" (powdered sugar) on them.

Plus, I've found all of these ideas to be BIG money savers, that's always a plus!

I hope you have fun! Anything you decide on will be fine. The kids will love it no matter what! They don't care about having 3 kinds of cookies!

A very easy, quick, and kid-friendly treat is Rice Krispie treats. They even come with red and green for Christmas! I just made some for my 1st graders holiday party and they went over VERY well!!

If you are going for something different I like the Death by Chocolate Trifle. I think it's a trifle. There are a few variations but the one I use involves layers of chocolate cake/or brownies, chocolate pudding, cool whip and chocolate coveres Heath Bar Pieces. This is always a hit among both kids and adults.

It's great because you can play with the layers and make it your own and you can totally cheat by purchasing pre-made cakes, brownies, even the pudding. I like to use the Devils Food Cake mix in mine.

You can either make little individuals in dixie cups or make one big trifle in a big bowl.

Also, you may want to try some web sites. Kraft usually has some pretty good ideas on their site.

Last year I made snack mix for the kids and they loved it, I literally just threw it together in a Ziploc bag:

Bag of Microwave popcorn
M&M's (you can use the seasonal ones)
Pretzels
Yogurt covered Raisins
Peanuts
Cheerios

It is something different that is not sweet and everyone loves it!

have you ever heard of buckeye cookies? If not they are great! If you don't know how to make them, they are very simple.

1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
1 box powdered sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla
12 oz. peanut butter
12 oz. chocolate chips

Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, vanilla and peanut butter. Roll into small balls. Melt chocolate in double boiler. Keep on low heat while dipping balls-use toothpicks for dipping. Leave a small space open at top to give appearance of a buckeye. Put on waxed paper to dry.
let me know how the kids like them if you decide to use this.

well my great aunt made this dessert and its ALWAYS the first dessert gone!! Its eastto make and NO COOKING!!! I actually have some in my fridge now. All you need is butterscotch pudding, oreos, cool whip and a little butter. It gets all mixed together and I don't like alot of desserts and it is really good. You could even sprinkle someChristmas colored sprinkles on it. You put it in like a rectangle cake pan. If your interested in more thourough directions you can call me at ###-###-####. and I am J..Good luck. Believe me, I feel for you, I have been the "sucker" before lots of times. I have a 14,11, and 2 yr old!

Muffins are a good idea no icing so not as messy.
Cupcakes made in icecream cones kids love these.
Or if you do the rice krispy treats try mixing in Christmas themed sprinkles for a festive look kids will love.

I like the cupcake idea. Then you could put sprinkles or christmas decorations on them. Something easy I would think. You might also try butterscotch cruntch cookies. I'm not sure of the exact recipe, but I know it involves a bag of butterscotch morsals, and frosted flakes cereal. You don't have to bake them, just let them chill for 30 mins to an hour in the fridge and their ready to go. If your interested let me know and I"ll get the recipe off of my brother. Puppy Chow for kids it's very quick and not too messy. You can put it in individual baggies or dixie cups for easier servings

1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Pour over Chex cereal, put into a large plastic bag with powdered sugar and shake well to coat.

Spread mixture evenly on wax paper and allow to cool.
