mamas & papas-

Any tips for kid friendly plates? mine is a picky eater. got some mileage the other day getting him to eat peas by putting them in a bunnykins plate and showing him that he can only see the pic if he eats the food.

looking for kid friendly plates, sectioned or otherwise, which are dishwasher and microwave safe, which have an assortment of images on them. something like big rig party plates by beacoup, but not disposable would be ideal, because it is dense with images.

You guys are great at this sort of thing.

Thanks,

F. B.

So What Happened?

We have some left over plain yellow paper party plates. Yesterday, I decorated one with the words hot, cold, the number 3, 5, and 19, and some shapes. He was pretty excited about "finding" what was "hiding" under the food.

hubs made one with the sun, moon and stars; i drew one with a race car and cement truck and a handful of letters and numbers.

We'll draw one a day until the supply runs out, or I get to a target, whichever comes first.

thanks a bunch for your tips.

Just a head's up.... microwaving plastic is a big no-no--you can do a google search on why it's bad, but just saying... we re-heat in stoneware/ceramic/glass and then transfer the food to plastic when he was using those dishes.

We found some cute dishes for Kiddo from Crocodile Creek. "Good" plastic, top rack dishwasher safe. They have some super-cute dinnerware sets too.

I have NEVER found them to be microwave safe, however ... you can purchase paper plates that are imaged along these lines. My personal favorite place to find kid plates when my son needed them was at Party City. You can find the kids character party plates for a buck a piece or something like that. We still have one of his "Thomas" plates that are good for when young ones come to visit.

Oooh that's a good one.
I find if I buy new kids plates w/the different compartments in cool cartoon
characters, he's more apt to eat his food that if I present it on a big white
plain plate.
I don't mind. I can get the cheap & he's only a kid for so long. Soon enough he will most likely eat us out of house & home once he starts
sports. Much of the time missing sit down dinners w/the family. :(

Amazon.com. My son was all too pleased to have "big boy" plates and cups and utensils that looked like just a smaller version of what we might use.

None I have found are microwave safe because of the plastic material, but they do have different characters to choose from at many stores, like Walmart, or on line. My kids had Dora and spondgebob ones.

Try Target. They tend to have lots of options, although many are seasonal.

uncommon goods has a construction plate that is separate compartments with the fork and spoon designed as construction tools. http://www.uncommongoods.com/for-kids/kids-gifts-5-years/... (similar item available for girls with gardening theme) Will cost you about $20 for the entire set, but may be worth it if you're struggling with this.

Target used to have plates like you looking for but they're made of Melamine. Melamine can get hot in the microwave and doesn't do well in the dishwasher (though I've put it in the top rack before). I wasn't really ever able to find non-plastic, non-breakable, microwave- and dishwasher-safe. I ended up getting plain white Corelle and it's worked well, so far.
