I go to the health food store and get my son chewable probiotics and he takes one every morning. I have also noticed that he made it through the entire winter without being sick once. I just give him one every day and I don't intend on stopping.

The best thing you can do is keep her on them as long as she lives under your roof. Almost everything in our diet these days has damaging effects and anything to counteract that for her is wonderful! She'll thank you one day...My kids have!

uuummmm......as often as directed for the rest of her life? It's not like antibiotics. It's best to take them every day, even if you don't have health problem! The best are the ones that have to be refrigerated, not the shelf-stable ones. You can get pills, powder, or a yogurt-type drink.

We give our kids a probiotic everyday as a part of their regimin. Please know that they are not all the same. Most OTC porbiotics can not guaratee that the bacteria is alive at the time it gets to the colon. Most say at time of purchase of time of ingestion. I would love to talk to you about a natural way of dealing with this before you child gets to the GI. Good Luck S.

I've been giving my boys 3 and 5 probiotics everyday for about two years. It seems to keep them healthier. I just use a powder form once a day mixed into their morning smoothie.

You can take probiotics every day of your life! My whole family does, including my son!! They won't hurt her a bit and will only help. I hope she gets better!

My son is two and recieves pro biotics every morning as well as echinachia. The kid is never sick - healthy as an ox, can be around sick kids and has a great immunity system. Keep your kids on this until they are 12 or older. When and if he does get a cold or croupy I up both probiotics and echinachia to 3 times a day. Great stuff and soooooo good for all of us!

I would look for an osteopath doctor. They treat things naturally. AN osteopath is the one that introduced me to probiotics. Regular doctors just want to give you more prescriptions. Mine works a lot with children. A GI doctor could not even diagnose my daughter, it was a biofeedback doctor. If your daughter had cdiff more medicine and if the wrong kind could make it worse. Make sure she's not eating too much sugar and watch out for yeast infections. Have you considered seeing if some foods make it worse? SHe probably has some food allergies.

Is that here in Indianapolis?

I'd personally ask both your pediatrician and also make a call to the GI specialist's office just to be sure you're not giving an incorrect dosage or anything else that could compromise their ability to properly diagnose what's causing her issues.

Since you're having a tough time getting in, I'd ask if there are other pediatric GI Specialists you may also try to get opinions from. I had a similar situation personally when needing to make a quick decision on a treatment for cancer. When I told them the urgency of the situation, they were able to get me in much more quickly. Not always the case in busy offices, but you never know when there may be another physician at another facility.

Here, we now have both Riley and the Peyton Manning Children's hospitals. I'm sure there are several options in the Chicago area as well if you're willing to travel there, too.
