I would strongly recommend contacting Baby Blues Connection. Their web site is babybluesconnection.org. They were very helpful for my daughter in law and she is now an active supporter of the organization. I know they have a phone number to call to talk with someone knowledgeable.

Good luck

I had a small case of post partum depression, and once I finally called my doctor it ended pretty quickly. She had prescribed Prozac to me and it helped tremendously!!!

Hang in there mama! I’ve totally been there. I experienced Post Partum depression after my second daughter. I noticed changes for a couple of months. Here are some things that have helped me get through some of the rough times.
1. Yoga has been an incredible release for me. It is my time to relax and start over. I feel like I get a restart every time I go and I look forward to it. Check out www.corepoweryoga.com They have a work for trade program where you can clean the studio once a week for a couple hours in exchange for free, unlimited yoga.
2. Anti-depressants can help in the short-term to help you get back up on your feet, or long-term if you need them to maintain balance and stability in your life. Millions of people are on medications, so try to have judgment on yourself.
3. An alternative treatment for depression and anxiety is an herbal supplement called Luminex. Do some research and look into it further. It contains natural ingredients including St Johns Wart, griffonia seed, folate, and vitamin B12 that help with depression and anxiety. My husband and I both started taking it a couple months ago and we noticed a difference within a couple of days. Let me know if you are interested or have any questions.

Hi,

Great advise below but in addition to the exercise and possible meds, I highly recommend that you seek out some support. A great resource is Postpartum Support International http://www.postpartum.net/Default.aspx the website has excellent resources and information. I still suffer from PPD but I sought out help 15 months post partum and thus my recovery takes a bit longer. The quicker you seek help the better. Of the various resources out there, I found the support group the most helpful. Knowing that other moms (and sometimes dads) are experiencing the same and similar things, really helped. You can find a support group in your area via this link http://www.postpartum.net/Get-Help/Support-Resources-Map-...

Good luck!

yes, I had it & it's so common. Sorry if you have to deal with it. It's all hormonal but as soon as I took a homeopathic, I was much better within a week. I went to Portland Family Homeopathy, ###-###-####. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

i did not have ppd but i did and do continue to have ocd... mine comes and goes and is usually centered around irrational fears... i have been told by numerous doctors that i should be on medication for it but i can never take any meds because i read the side effects pamphlet and freak out over it :) i will say that my ocd got much worse right after each of my kids were born and started to ease up a bit about 6 mos pp. if you are comfortable taking medication you might want to take something short term... or you can go the herbal route and take some st. johns wort. sorry i know my advice is not all that helpful but know that you are not alone!

I had dealed with that in the past. I tried the "happy" pills but they did freak me out even more as I did have ALL the side effects that are listed plus extras. What helped? Catching up on my vitamine D, exercise, meditation, "where is the treasure" method, breathing technics and stuff like that. Good luck!

I won't say I am still suffering w/ PPD but had it severely w/ my 2nd child. My daughter is now 2.5 yrs old & still feel at times waves of depression. From what I gathered, everyone suffers w/ it differently & at different lengths. So yours may just last under a yr or so. I do know for a fact that women who have any history of mental illness ie: depression, bi-polar, anxiety, panic disorder etc are the perfect candiates for PPD as I was. My best advice is to do what you're doing and reach out for help w/ it and vent avout it. Make sure you have plenty of adult interaction!! Also remember that men are'nt always very understanding when it comes to PPD so try not to let that get you down if your husband isn't very supportive &/or understanding. For me reading the Bible, praying, keeping a journel, & listening to Christian music! Hope this helps!
