Joan Rivers Calling Edele "Fat"

Adele is fat.

Joan Rivers is old and strange looking.

So what?

Adele is also gorgeous and talented. Still fat.....(ok, maybe I should be more PC, she is pleasantly plump)

People are a lot of things. It doesn't make someone a bad person for pointing it out. I am thin. But I have ugly feet. My husband makes fun of them all the time. Him not telling me about my ugly feet doesn't make them any prettier. Everyone has their thing. Adele probably has gorgeous feet.

Actually, she called Adele "chubby". And... yeah... Adele IS chubby. So - why the hate on Joan? I agree that she's a mean old lady, but she didn't say anything that isn't true. And it doesn't change the fact that Adele is an amazing singer.

Well Joan Rivers is something else isn't she LOL I cringe at some of the stuff she says too, but really, who takes her seriously? lol

I find it really annoying that people can't call fat people fat, or chubby people chubby without someone flying off the handle, but it's okay for obese people to tell thin women like me that I need to "eat a cheeseburger."

Uhm, don't make negative comments about another person's body to fill your self-esteem needs. That's EVERY BIT as wrong.

Double standards much? If I said to them, "hey, how about you lay OFF the cheeseburgers," they'd get all self-righteous and offended.

Fat or skinny, some folks don't know when to STFU.

I was constantly picked on and bullied for my size while I was growing up. I was teeny. I ate like a horse. I WANTED to put on weight. There was nothing I could do. Yes, I'm skinny. I've been underweight, according to Army standards, for my entire 11+ year career. Finally, at age 33, I've got a little curve in my bust and hip.

Skinny, fat, or in between...nobody knows their struggle. People need to learn some kindness.

Joan Rivers says a lot of things about a lot of people. I doubt any of them take it too seriously.

Also, Joan makes plenty of fun of herself. She is always joking about her saggy boobs and how many plastic surgeries she's had.

She's built a pretty solid career on making jokes. She's also a very savvy business woman.

I doubt she truly meant to offend Adele. Let's face it, she's not the usual stick figure and that's part of what makes her beautiful, in my opinion.
She's talented, successful, famous.

Joan is kicking and screaming about her age all the way to the surgeon's office. Nobody should take her seriously about much of anything.

That's just not something you joke about, because it's really not funny. Joan's defense is that she IS fat, so she is only speaking the truth. I still fail to see where the joke is...?? I tend to agree that she falls inline with the literal definition of fat, but at the same time...she was attempting to be funny. She failed.

I find it hilariously ironic, that she is making fun of anyone's physical appearance. She has so little self esteem and worth, that she makes herself look like an alien with plastic surgery.

Eh... Joan Rivers is irrelevant. Adele isn't fat. The woman just had a baby, for crying out loud. She's also representative of real women rather than the twiggy anorexic thin women who have trainers helping them with 6-hour daily work outs when they're not in the recording studios or in front of a camera for days on end.

Joan Rivers makes fun of everyone, including herself. I'm not a big fan, but there are many other comedians I adore who are even meaner than she is.

Seriously, maybe Rivers was going for the 'easy' joke? Maybe she can't come up with anything funny to riff on and so she's going for obvious? (Kind of like when people tease me about being so short-- I mean, I've got plenty of other quirky stuff, so *this* is what you focus on? How lazy of you!)

And this is how Joan Rivers got the money to pay for all that plastic surgery - saying things like this.

Joan Rivers is a comedienne. This is what comediennes do. Make fun of our hang ups. Not having heard her monologue I can't comment accurately but I suggest that she's making fun of those who focus on her size rather than her talent. She's not criticizing Adele. She's criticizing those who consider fat a negative.

Sometimes I laugh at Joan Rivers and sometimes I change the channel, just like other shows/interviews.

I am sure I laugh at a couple of things that other people sneer at.

Adele will be okay. She is young and beautiful and gets plenty of attention. JR is getting older every day and screams for attention.

In any event, I will still give them both a little of my attention and they won't even notice me.

That's Joan Rivers' schtick, unfortunately. Actually, most comedians use this sort of thing to get a laugh.

Joan is pretty talentless, IMO, and she looks like a cat/alien hybrid, what with all the "work" she's had done. Funny that someone that hideous is making fun of a person way more beautiful than she is.

Not to mention, it's not like Adele doesn't know she's overweight and who really cares? They girl has more talent and style than Joan could ever hope for. I think it's just a pathetic, fledgling person taking jabs at a person who's hot right now, so that she can stay in the news and stay relevant. Do you really think Adele is sitting at home crying and holding all of the Grammys? Probably not.

I have to agree with the post about Joan's appearance.....I think she looks hideous. I don't get where she has room to say anything about someone else. She's untalented and annoying. Adele, on the other hand rocks. :)

yeah i lost all respect for joan rivers when she went to a sam's club and picketed (LOUDLY and OBNOXIOUSLY- with a megaphone) because the COMPANY wouldn't carry her book. those poor sam's club employees. i felt bad for them - she can be really vile.not to mention it's a free country, i have zero problem with a company deciding which books it wants to sell and which it doesn't. i think she's ugly inside and out. she made millions on being that way though. i just prefer comedians that can be funny without being hurtful. it's completely unnecessary, the way she acts, imho.

Joan Rivers is a comic who operates on shock and outrage. Some people like that stuff. I don't. So, consider the source.

The one real value that this sort of person has (for me) is that SOMETIMES she skewers truths that other people just tiptoe around. Adele is chubby? Well, Adele is obviously heavier than your average pop singer, so that part is technically "truthy." But doesn't this get those of us who are not model-thin to question how the word "fat" is used in our society to make some people "better" than others? That's a service, ladies, and not one for the faint-hearted, which Joan R is not.

So, though I don't like Joan's comedy, she does have my grudging respect in this one area. I still prefer kindness, myself.

Joan Rivers is an idiot, and who cares what she says. She is just going for shock value, like most everything that comes out of her mouth. And she needs to look in the mirror.

Joan is trying to get attention. I like her, but shame on her.

Anyway. Yeah, Adele is a full figured gal, but her pipes are amazing. And she's not the first, as I think the British rags were beating the weight issue over and over as well.

Well, Joan Rivers is always saying something about somebody and she particularly likes to call people fat. I don't like that lady at all, she just rubs me the wrong way. And all that plastic surgery she's had just makes her look awful.
