JFF: Finishing Touches for Facing the World

This is just meant to be a fun share....

Even though I homeschool and don't have to go out to a professional job or even to do drop-off, there is something about putting on shoes which makes me feel a little more--well, ready to deal with life. I have a favorite pair of shoes, they are comfortable and supportive, and I wear them most of the day for support for my feet. They only have a 1" heel, but I feel a wee bit taller than my usual 4'11" and more in charge, as it were. Silly, I know, but I thought I'd share. I'll even put a little powder on my face if I'm going out, but the shoes are really what make this lady feel ready for life.

What do you do--what 'finishing touch'--makes you feel ready to face the world?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Mynewnickname: The tea is essential to waking! Every morning it's a cup of Yunnan fancy, with sugar and milk. :) Sort of can't function without it. I am liable to misread emails and give my son very grumpy looks before that first cup.

Fanged: I grew up in Honolulu, where it is considered offensive behavior to wear ones shoes in another person's home. That said, it's cold where I live, and she who cleans the floors can wear shoes indoors. Besides, scientifically, "because the pavement is cleaner than the kitchen floor in terms of the types of germs that cause illnesses, said Dr. Harley Rotbart, "The kitchen floor, however, is probably a zero-second zone because the bacteria from uncooked meat and chicken juices are more hazardous than the ‘soil' bacteria outside," Just something to consider.

Funny first thing I do when I step inside the house is take my shoes off and I wouldn't fathom putting them on till I'm out the door. Sidewalks are dirty and I don't care to track that into the house.

If it makes you happy and better prepared go for it.

My MIL tells me she feels better able to address the world when wearing jewelry. It's like a coat of armor for her.

As crazy as it sounds, mascara. I just don't feel right without it!

Eta..Wild Woman, so funny! I just scrolled down and see we both have a thing for mascara. And I truly thought there was no one who would relate with my answer :)

Compression socks.
When you're standing on your feet for 5 hrs a day (or longer), you want something that will eliminate the shin splints at the end of the day and I've got a pair I won't leave the house without.

My hair.

Even when I go camping, I have to wash it. I don't do anything special (I'm not a fussy kind of gal) but it sticks up and looks like a nest if I don't. My husband's first pet name for me was haystack.

I like the shoe thing. Whatever works :)

Oooh what a fun question! I had to think on this for a bit...despite having full-time career, big-girl sort of job where I take a train into a fancy office building everyday, I'm still pretty casual with my appearance (some would call it sloppy lol). I often just twist my hair into a bun and regularly don't wear makeup, so it's not makeup or hair. I usually wear sneakers or boots or flip flops on my commute and change into flats or heels in the office, so it's not shoes. I think for me it's a bag - I have a couple of nice handbags and a beautiful new tote for work that, even when I'm wearing jeans and a sweater, say "I'm ready and I belong here, bring it on!"

Heels. I like the advantage I have when I wear two or three inch heels. Although they have to be comfortable AND the right height. Heels make me tall enough I am at eye level with most of my colleagues which cuts down on the head patting. I work with nearly all men so I need all the advantages I can get. On the flip side I don't like wearing heels during my off hours. Makes me feel too much like I am going to work.

That's funny. I work at home. Have for 16 yrs. Everyone I work with also works from home usually in their pjs. Me? I get up, showered, dressed, grab coffee from the kitchen, and then sign onto my computer to work for the day. Like anyone but me cares? Not a bit but somehow I just can't 'go to work' in my pjs unshowered without my mug of coffee in hand.

I work from home. I never thought of the "finishing touch" for me. I guess it would be putting mascara on. yeah - that little thing helps me feel better when I'm sick too!! A nice, hot shower and then mascara!

Well, I don't wear makeup and I'd go to work in sweats if it was acceptable. And on weekends, I'm mostly barefoot, so nothing like that.

For me, it's a cup of tea in the morning. It's not about caffeine, I drink only decaf stuff. But the physical act of taking a deep breath and sipping on a cup of something hot is required before I'm mentally ready to face my day.

Tea first, and then, a great pair of shoes, but in these fall and winter months, it's definitely boots!

i'm a barefoot hippy girl, even though i don't actually sally forth into the world barefoot as much as i used to (and now that it's cold again i'm always wearing socks.)
mine is faery dust. ridiculous in a old gal of 57- but i think the world is sadly devoid of faery dust, and it's my mission to remedy that.
sparkle up!

For me it is when my nails are done. I am a glass artist though and the glue, grout, etc. I use just makes it nearly impossible to have nice looking nails. I'm lucky that my nails don't break though. I actually have to cut them. I can make my nails look nice relatively quickly. They just don't stay that way.

Taking a few minutes in the morning to review my calendar / to-do list / shopping list. It helps to minimize feelings of "oh wow I have so much to do" when I can see each thing written down.

I work from home and I get up,shower, and dress for my day. It does not matter if I happen to never leave my house for the day. It's important I'm in my "mode". I just go from my bedroom (back of house) to the office (MIL suite...front of house).

I'm not nearly as productive if I have my comfy clothes or pj's on.

I dress business casual, do my hair and makeup ( 45 minutes shower to ready to go). I adore my long hot morning showers.

I wear my shoes in my house and my guests do as well. I do have 2 fur babies I'm constantly letting in/out.

I hardly ever where makeup. When I do (powder face, blush, mascar) I feel a bit more "ready."
If I go full face, jewlery, jeans *usually wear my comfy pants*, and my "nice" sweatshirt...watch out.

Doing my hair!

I have long, thick hair and when I take the time to dry it (versus a messy bun) I feel ready to conquer the world! Today it's a rainy mess in the DC region and I still dried it. We'll see what it looks like when I leave work!
