JFF: Cute Answer of a Simple Question

So, last night, we were watching a cartoon about a little boy looking for a present for his parents with our son. The boy's friends were suggesting all sorts of 'kid-like' gifts for the boys parents - like a pony for the Dad, etc. So, I decided to ask our son, "K what would you get Daddy for a present if you could?" I was expecting something that revolves around his world - Power Rangers sword, Darth Vader mask...What we got instead was a heartfelt response that shocked us both. For Daddy, our son would get a box of the moon and the stars that we could take up onto the roof, build really high and light up. When I asked what he would get for Mommy, he said, "I would get you words. Lots of really nice words that say nice things and I would write my name really nice with hearts." As the tears started to well up in my eyes and the overwhelming urge to squeeze my son came over me, he was totally unaware of how lovely his gifts were. He just kept going on as kids are apt to do with a stream of conscious thought. I was just so happy both my husband and I were in the room to hear it and thought, 'you really just don't ever know what a kid will say.'

So, with that, I thought it might be fun to hear what sweet, silly, typical, expected, unexpected, crazy...answers you may get from your own children if you ask them the same question, "If you could get Mommy/Daddy a present all by yourself, what would it be?" Our son is 4 years old. I think it will be fun and insteresting to hear all the answers from many children (include the age of the child in your answer so we can see how they may differ with age).

Thanks and have a fabulous day!

How sweet!

This reminds me of the card I got from my boys a couple of years ago. It had an adorable kitten on the outside, and on the inside it said "Mom, we love you SO MUCH! I think my heart could EXPLODE of loving you!!!!!!! Love, H and T."

I still have it.

Aaaaw!

I have a home made Christmas card from my middle child he made at school in 4th grade. It says:

Sometimes I wish I were the dad and you were the kid so I could give you everything you ever wanted for Christmas.

I hang it up every year. Makes everything bad good again!

Nice post.

My 9 year old daughter told me she would get me medicine or better doctors to make all my pain go away. She said it makes her sad to see mommy cry and be in pain and no one can help. I have fibromyalgia and a chronic pain condition along with many mental diagnoses.

She stated that she would get daddy a bazillion dollars so that he could stay home too and we could have two cars instead of one.

My son who is 6 doesn't talk and wouldn't understand the question but he understands what birthdays are so I asked him what can mommy have for her birthday? He pointed to a page in a book he was reading - he pointed at and tried to say moon. When I asked him what should daddy have he changed his channel to ESPN.

If I asked my 5 year old this he would say that he wanted to get me a monster truck so he could ride in it. He is not that sweet and loving but that is what makes my son so lovable for me.

Proudpanmomof2 - that almost made me cry. Your and S.'s kids are too cute!
