Just started Unbroken and am still chewing away on The Emperor of All Maladies: The Biography of Cancer.
I need to frame this in my house somewhere....
I love this and had to share!
I LOVE BIG BOOKS AND I CANNOT LIE
You other readers can't deny
When a book walks in with a good plot base
And a big spine in your face you get sprung
Wanna pull out your pens
'Cause you noticed that book was dense
Reading, half-rims I'm wearing
I'm hooked and I ain't caring
Oh baby I want an E-reader
And a meaningful meter
My teachers tried to train me
That book you got makes me so brainy
LOL
So for the mandatory question:
What are you reading and how do you like it?
I am reading There Was A Little Girl by Brooke Sheilds. So far I like it. She is showing a different said to her mother that the media did not see, but I am only on page 45/366 so who knows if that will change.
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Just started Unbroken and am still chewing away on The Emperor of All Maladies: The Biography of Cancer.
LOL thanks for sharing!
Just finished Beautiful Lies and really liked it.
Started and gave up on 2 other books since then, still looking for the next book that will get me hooked.
I'm currently reading A Feast For Crows. It's great but it is a Game OF Thrones book so not for the faint of heart.
I am also starting to read The Magic Treehouse books with my daughters at bed time.
Thanks -- you started my day with a laugh!
I'm reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. (PBS viewers, this is the first of the series of books on which the current "Masterpiece" TV production is based.) It's excellent so far, very well written historical fiction.
My 14-year-old daughter has me starting a series of books that are loosely based on fairy tales but are pretty much dystopian novels -- First one is "Cinder" where the Cinderella figure is a cyborg....It was pretty good and I'm going to read the rest so we can talk about them. I'm grateful she pushes her dad and me to read books she likes--it's lovely that she wants to share. It's just hard to keep up because now she's into another fantasy series that is 14 books long!....
Haha I like it.
This week I've read: The Sound and the Fury - Faulkner Loved it! and
the time keeper - Mitch Albom Found it a fun journey with time.
I'm working on Breakfast at Tiffany's - Capote I'm 1/3 of the way through and I'm enjoying it so far. I also have On the Road by Kerouac and provided his style is similar to Burroughs I do believe I shall enjoy it.
My favorite books from the last year: The Orphan Train, The Red Tent, The Husband's Secret, Unbroken, In the Garden of the Beast, New York - the novel.
i am almost finished with 'fingersmith' by sarah waters, and loving it like i have loved few books in recent memory. actually, i'm listening to it, which might be a lot of the appeal. it's got a great reader. i can hardly stay out of my car! but lovely amazon just delivered me the print edition too so i can enjoy it again more traditionally in the future.
in the house i'm revisiting a lot of arthurian legends. so happy. and in the car i've got a well-thumbed copy of 'hellflower', an old favorite, in case i get the opportunity to take myself out for lunch and a read.

I'm writing a series of children's books and another book for adults. Looking for a publisher.
I just started Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. So far, so good. I finished Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption. It was one of the better books I have read in quite a while.
:-) love it!
I've been doing a classic reading challenge this year & so far I've read:
A Flower Grows in Brooklyn (loved it)
The Fountainhead (enjoyed it mostly though there were some dry & drawn out portions)
The Pearl (excellent little novella)
Middlemarch (currently reading & having a hard time really getting into it)
Our hs curriculum is heavy on literature so we read quite a bit together. Current reads that we are enjoying are
Abigail Adams:Witness to a Revolution and Kidnapped.
Happy reading!
Snow Mountain Passage--About the Donner Party. Wonderful, beautiful writing.
And a long list of books waiting for summer (I am an English professor!). I read for a living in some ways, but it is hard to get to the books I want to read for pleasure.
I'm just about to start Life After Life (Kate Atkinson) or The Hypnotist's Love Story (Liane Moriarty). I am finishing up And Never Let Her Go by Ann Rule (about Thomas Capano and Anne Marie Fahey). I try to read a non-fiction and then a fiction. I'm not loving the current non-fiction but I'll finish it nonetheless.
My mom just recommended Henna House (Nomi Eve) so that will probably be my next fiction. I'm looking for a good non-fiction book in the history category.
Oh I want to read that Brooke Shields one! I just finished Alan Cummings' biography Not My Father's Son, and am currently reading The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling (which will premiere as a new HBO/BBC miniseries later this month.)
Another really good recent read was The Headmaster's Wager by Vincent Lam, LOVED that.
Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical Surgical nursing. And when I'm taking a study break/before bed I'm reading Burned by Karen Marie Moning and Instinct by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
The textbook ... yeah ... well ... it's a textbook LOL
Instinct is good so far, but I expected nothing less.
Burned has been ok so far (had to jump to it since it's on loan from the library). Will it be worth the 2 year wait? Not sure yet. Will have to wait and see.
I'm just getting around to reading Outliers right now.
Fascinating!
Just started The Rosie Project - like it so far! love a good book
have a great weekend too :)
Right now I am reading Rules, which is a teens book about a girl who has a brother with autism. A friend who has a neurotypical tween and a younger son with autism suggested it. So far good read. I also read Anything But Typical, written from a boy with autism's POV.
OH, and I am also reading As You Wish, by Cary Elwes. My husband is listening to The Martian on CD.
Somebody just gave me the new Erik Larson book about the Lusitania - "Dead Wake". Can't wait to dive into it! (sorry, bad pun)
I love it now I will have "Baby's Got Back" on the brain all day. I just finished reading The Bride Price by Suzanne Popp. It was very good. I just got into the Weekend Warrior series by Fern Michaels. I am enjoying it so far. At home I am reading a book by Debbie Macomber but I can't remember the name of it. I love her books. I hope to get some ideas what to read next.
Love this question! And the "Big Books" LOL
So many to add to my wish list from below!
I've been into memoirs lately, I just finished "what I was doing while you were breeding" about a sitcom writer who traveled away her 20's and 30's before settling down. Loved it. Right now I am reading Rachel Dratch's book (I also read Tina Fey's, Amy Poehler's, maybe I'll do Brooke Sheilds next and definitely Carey Elwes!)
before the memoirs it was... Little Lies? Beautiful Lies? I forget what it was called, it was about elementary moms and drama set in Asutralian beach town :)
