Jeans for Boys That Hold Up?

My 5 year old has blown out the knees in 3 pair of pants in the last month! All 3 pair were from Old Navy, so apparently I need a new brand. Any suggestions on pants and jeans that will hold up better in the knees? I read through old questions and a lot of people suggested the Sears Kidvantage program, but that no longer exists. I will try putting patches in the new ones so he has an extra layer to wear through...but which brands should I start with?

What can I do next?

Look for jeans that are called 'double knees'. Try Penney's or Kohl's. I am not an Old navy shopper but the few times I have been there it seems as though the quality is not as good as other stores.

With my youngest I just learned to like the look of ripped knees :-) .

Buy your jeans at Sears. They have a 'Kids Club' you can sign up for at no charge, and if your child wears them out, prior to growing out of them, they will replace them for free (keep your receipts). Check to see if they still have this program. They did when mine were small 9-10 yrs ago.

Levi's, JC Penney frequently has good sales.
I like Old Navy's style but their stuff is highly disposable, especially the denim.

I have never had that happen to my son. He wears Gap jeans ( you can get them for under 12 dollars when they go on sale and you save 40% on top of it) and Land's end sells "Iron Knee" jeans that I have not needed personally but they are supposed to be great for kids like yours. I liked Old Navy for Maternity and Baby but their kids and adult clothes are really poor quality.

Carhartt makes kids clothes with double knees. I had the same problem myself, and found that these were the only ones that worked. I also have a picker- one who picks apart all the patches on everything. I also found that if I put iron on patches on the inside and the outside of the knees, I could get a little more life out of pants. Good luck!

Levis all the way. Old Navy pants, whether denim or kahkis, are cheaply made. I'd rather pay a littl emore for Levis and not have to constantly buy more pants.

I buy Gap. I buy them second hand, both of my boys wear them and I am still able to sell them.

We have had good luck with Circo brand (Target) or Levi's. Good luck!

glad i'm not the only one - last year, i thought i was so smart, stocking up on Old Navy jeans when they had a sale, around september - i got him 5 pairs i think. before christmas, all 5 pairs were blown out. i was SO annoyed.

i also buy the cheapo $7 jogging pants (the swishy sounding ones, not the sweat pant types) at walmart. honestly they have lasted longer than the target jeans.

Levi's!

When my oldest boys were in the thick of wearing out their jeans in the knees, I had the best luck with Levi's and it doesn't hurt to iron on a patch on the (inside!) knee area when you first buy them. If you wanted to go cheaper b/c Levi's are a bit spendy ($26-$42, I just bought a bunch at JcPenny's) I like the Mossimo Jeans at Target...they are sturdy and cute!

~I suggest getting the softest fabric patches you can find and then iron them in and then wash them (maybe even a couple times?) b/c sometimes I have noticed that the outline of the patch can be seen from the outside, which I didn't really like. The darker the color Jeans the less noticeable the patch is from the outside too, just FYI! I think the outline of a patch is a lot better than a hole though!

I have even been known to find a 'cool' looking patch or two from Michael's Craft store and sewing it on the outside (with matching cool colored thread) of a couple of my favorite pairs of my boys jeans, when my only other option was to toss them or make them into shorts

Good news is, I have found that the hole-in-the-knee phase only lasts from about 4-5ish through 11-12ish...so a mere 8 years, Ha!

No brand is immune to a rough and tumble active boy...no brand that I have found anyway! Gotta love them boys!!!
