Ius

Hi! I have a 3 yr. old and a 9 wk. old baby girl and need to start thinking about birth control. I don't handle the Pill well at all (had pretty bad side effects with 3 different ones), so my OB-GYN said the IUS would be the best option for me. We're not sure if we're going to have any more children at this point. I would like to hear from other women who've had the IUS. Did you like it? Was the insertion painful? Was it bothersome or did you experience cramping? Were you able to get pregnant easily after removing it?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I had the mirena and had it taken out.... (good bye $750). I had severe headaches, could not sleep, was a total B**ch on it.... It screwed with me. So I went back to what I had before - the Nuva ring... I like it. No complaints at all.

I got Mirena 6 weeks after I had my second baby. I gto pregnant with him while on the low-dose pill! Im not very great with hormones, so I was scetchy about Mirena. But Im allergic to copper, so the copper IUD was out of the question! Mirena is working great for me now, about 12 weeks... I bled pretty steadily for 4 weeks afterward, but I havent bled since then! Good luck, I know its a big decision to make :)

I also did not have a good experience on it. I bled a lot and had cramps, and it just made me feel weird. It actually came out after only having it for 3 months. So it turns out my body didn't want it. My doctor offered to try and insert a new one, but I didn't want to pay more money for the same thing to possibly happen again. Every woman is different, and I have heard of many women who have success with the IUD or IUS. My advice to you is listen to your conscience. i had a gut feeling that the Mirena wasn't right for me, but I did it anyway. Big mistake! Good luck to you.

If the Pill bugs you get a copper IUD not a Mirena.
I had a copper IUD put in before I had babies and it was painful but quick. My periods were a little heavier and cramps a little stronger but it rarely affected our sex life my hubby told me he rarely felt it at all and if he did it didn't hurt him. You DO need to be fully "ready" for sex for it to be 100% out of the way - so your man has to do his due dilligence before intercourse ;)
the other caution I was given is that IUD's make you more vulnerable to STD's so you must trust your partner 100%.
I had a MIrena after my son was born - it hurt less to "install" and stopped my periods completely - I took it out after 2 years because I started to get a little crazy.

I had the Mirena put in about 6 weeks after my first and I LOVE it. I felt a bit crampy went they put it in but that went away pretty quickly. By comparison after having the baby, getting Mirena put in was a breeze. There was some bleeding for about 3ish weeks after but its gone now and I don't have any of the side effects that I used to get from the pill. With all the things to keep track of with a new baby, I am glad I don't have to keep track of taking the pill every day anymore. I was horrible at being consistent with the pill. So far so good! I don't know about getting pregnant after Mirena, but my OB seemed to be really confident about it not being a problem.

I too had a lot of trouble with the pill, so I decided to just use the diaphragm. It isn't glamorous, but it has no side effects and it seems to have worked well for me so far. Just something to consider.
