I got the one with no hormones in it. I spotted for months then it finally stopped. My docter said it was normal. Hope this helps alittle. I have had mine going on 3 years now.
I have an IUD and I had really irregular periods and spotting for a while after I first got it. Now I have no period at all. You should be able to reach inside with your fingers and feel the string. If you don't, find a planned parenthood or a public health clinic. Take a pregnancy test if it makes you feel better. It is very very very rare to get pregnant with an IUD, it does happen, but it is highly unlikely. Don't stress about it. It is very common to spot in between periods and it is common to stop having your period altogether. If you suspect there is a problem, find a planned parenthood. They will help based on your income. Most of the time they are free. Public health works on a sliding fee scale, too.
You hsould have a normal period. But the IUD does cause spotting sometimes inbetween periods. Have you checked the little string to make sure it is in place?
I had a IUD for 2 years then got pregnant with it. It was still in place but they think it has moved just a little bit.
Whatever you do, check that string monthly! If you notice any changes, be careful!
You might check to see if there are free clinics or sliding scale clinincs in your area. The dollar stores usually have pregancy tests too.

I've had an IUD now for 3years. I've never had a problem w/spotting. You might want to call Ask A Nurse and see what they suggest.
I had mine removed after a few months cause of spotting and mine had slipped i had a lot of pain with mine . Did u know that if u were to get hit in a wrong way it could cause alot of damage i didnt at the time until i had mine removed and very happy that i did .
I have had the mirena iud since June of 06 and I haven't had any problems. In the beginning my periods were irregular and now every once in a while I have some spotting, but nothing regular and my periods have already shortened. My doc said that it would be normal after six month to a year if it stopped all together. Have you tried a pregnancy test? If you think you may be pregnant you should definately check it out. At many Health and Human Services you can have a test done for free. Good luck!
i have the mirena iud. i spotted for like 3 months, heavy spotting then one day it quit and i haven had a period for over 4 months! i cant feel my strings. i had it checked and the nurse said it was in place and fine, but i cant feel them, and dont even liek trying. my husband cant feel them either. when in doubt, i would say check, but im sure your fine. if you dont have any pain your likely ok
hi i have a iud have had one for the last 11yrs and i have spotted just 2 weeks ago i think its normal cause if u have never had one ur body is getting accusomed to it i did the same thing after my last child and i have never had any problems with mine.they told me that some women will spot and some will have heavy periods well some times i do and dont have heavy ones but u should be able to go to a planned parent hood and they can check it for u wiht no charge.hope this helps
My mom quit using the IUD because of the spotting and there was also the worry of it falling out without her knowing it. I've never used one so I don't know. Can you use the depo shot. My sister found out that worked best for her. I was lucky, my husband decided on a vasectomy instead of me going on birth control. I was always sick and forgot to take the pill. I hope this helps. Good luck!!!
I have the 5 year one not sure what it's called but it has been wonderful. The first six months I spoted and it would get less and less each time. Now I don't have a period, haven't for 3 1/2 years. It's pretty nice not haveing to buy that stuff. But sometimes I get really bad PMS. But I did before the IUD so that doesn't have anything to do with it. If you have any cramping please call your dr or go to a free clinic (health department). Also you should be able to reach up and feel the string. Did your dr have you check it when he put it in? It should be in the same spot. If it has moved you should not wait to get help. Best of luck.
