Iud? - Downers Grove,IL

There are 2 types- 1 with hormones-Mirena, 1 without-Paraguard. I have had both. I had the Mirena for 3.5 years. I loved it while I had it the 1st few years. Due to the hormones I only had like 1 period a year, never spotted inbetween either. Then for a few months I begen bleeding every other week, and felt horrible. I had an ultra sound and it had fallen out of place, and the hormones were really messing with me. I constantly felt irritated and was moody all the time. I didn't really notice those feeling until I had it removed. The same day I had it removed, I had the paraguard put in. I have had it since August. I had a period every 30 days until last month. And I felt wonderful being off the hormones, I'm not irritaed all the time and more loving and affectionate. In Nov. I was late, had some spotting and a huge clot. Didn't have anything for Dec. and started on the 1st. My cramps are alot worse and my bleeding is very very heavy with this one.

All in all I love them just due to the fact you don't have to worry about them for years at a time. I can't feel that it is in there, my hubby can't feel it either. Like anything else it does have serious complications and health risk. You can go to there main sites and read up on the complications. Good luck with your decision!!

I'll be getting an IUD within the next few months. (I haven't been able to convince my husband he needs a vasectomy.) A friend of mine is on one that has no hormones and is good for 10 years. I think (and hope!) they are effective and painless!

I had the Mirena IUD put in a year ago. I LOVE IT!!! I barely ever have my period, although once and a while for a day I will spot but nothing like having your regular period at all. When I do get my period, it lasts about 2 days. I do experience cramps sometimes when I get it and they are worse than before, but nothing too bad. After it was first put in, I did have cramping for about 2 days. It did hurt a bit when it was being put in but nothing to keep you from doing it. MY favorite thing is that I do not have to worry about taking a pill every day, and it lasts 5 years. I have no side effects at all.

I had the Mirena IUD, I had absolutely no problems with it (I have other issues after my daughter was born, but it had nothing to do with the IUD).

Some of my friends have had Mirena too, the only problem I heard anyone say, is that when they have sex, their partner can feel the 'string' that is attached to it, and it kept poking them. So, they had to have the 'string' cut shorter. After they did that, they had no problems with it at all.

I had a copper/non hormonal IUD for five years and I loved it. I recently had it removed because my husband and I are trying to conceive, but it was super easy. I had no real side effects and never really felt it when it was in.

I have had the paraguard (non-hormonal) for nearly two years now.
Previous to this, with the exception of conception and completion of two pregnancies, I spent the majority of 15 years on the pill.
My body adjusted just fine to the paraguard IUD. I have regular normal periods, no noticeable shift in mood (from before IUD).
OB/GYN inserted at regular office visit. Little bit of cramping after insertion. The experience was no worse than a pap.

My husband has told me a time or two that he could felt the string. But was not something that hurt him, he just noticed it.

I chose IUD over tubal ligation because I was 29 at the time. I was fairly certain then, as I am now, that we are done having kids. However, I felt I was too young to make such a permanent decision. The paraguard is good for 10 years. By 39 if we haven't had anymore kids, I will feel better about making a more permanent decision. Or I will just get another one and keep my options open another 10 years!
