A few months ago I bought a hoover steamvac legacy from the Hoover website. I got free shipping and it was on sale for $150. It was well worth the money. It's strong and can clean your carpets well, even stains from dogs and food. You have to change the water a lot, though, so that's a bit of a pain. This did a better job than the "professionals" did when we moved in. It is worth the money.

I have a Bissell QuickSteamer and I LOVE it! It was only $70ish. It's WONDERFUL for spot cleaning. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have attachments to clean furniture. I have done a whole room, I just had to change the water several times but it did great!

If you are not looking for a company, I use Folex to spot clean the carpets. You can buy it at Walmart or Home Depot.
