Have you tried Whole Foods or Central Market or Sun Harvest in San Antonio? I know they are a little bit of a drive, but would probably have something comparable.
My MIL is in town from California. She's allergic to all of the perservatives found in lots/most all-purpose seasonings found in our local grocery stores here. Anyone know of a good organic/salt-free/preservative-free seasoning comparable to Trader Joe's?
btw - ingredients in Trader Joes 21 seasoning salute are: Onion, Black Pepper, Celery Seed, Cayenne Pepper, Parsley, Basil, Marjoram, Bay Leaf, Oregano, Thyme, Savory, Rosemary, Cumin, Mustard, Coriander, Garlic, Carrot, Orange Peel, Tomato Granules, Lemon Juice Powder, Oil of Lemon, and Citric Acid.
I tried looking on Amazon.com to see if I could buy a bottle. No go. None for sale there.
She's here for another week and a half.
What do you guys know? I don't want to read 100 labels at the grocery store tomorrow.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I think we may try the bulk buy and make our own concoction. I told her that I have maybe 5 of the 21 ingredients in my cupboard already. We'll see. My local HEB sells some Central Market items, so will stick to reading the ingredients on those bottles. CentralMarket and Whole Foods are about a 30 mile trip. Not too bad, but not sure if it's worth that long trip.
She often does bring her own bottle or two of seasoning. Plus her own garbanzo bean flour and creamy rice cereal and a whole lot of other things. But this trip, my FIL was coming too and he said "we're not cramming our suitcases with a lot of food. We'll buy food when we get there." She said if I'd told her we were almost out of 21 SSalute, she'd had packed a bottle. She told me "We're not bringing any food" so I didn't bother telling her we were almost out. I think she's upset b/c whatever we buy here will likely cost twice as much as a bottle of 21ssalute does.

Is there a Central Market nearby? If so, go to the bulk section and ask someone there what is the nearest to that. My hubby loves their lemon pepper, and I believe they have no preservatives. Barring that, use the bulk section spices (which are great) to concoct your own mix. Good luck!
It is very difficult to meet the needs of people with allergies or other food related problems. I know I am one of those people. It is a shame she didn't bring her own bottle and make like easier for you. Good luck on your treasure hunt.

I love TJs 21 Seasoning Salute, I have some in my kitchen now:)
Have you considered just buying some fresh herbs and lemons/onions/garlic?
Ebay has two sellers with some :http://bit.ly/eDWjJj
The only other thing I might suggest is to buy all the spices and make your own mix.....but that might get costly! You could also buy small amounts from bulk foods (in a health food store) so you don't have 21 bottles of seasoning around!
Good luck!
