I am 19 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child, and am already feeling the let down of my milk... what going on? I mean I am pretty small cheasted to begin with when you consider that i am 5'9, and this is so bizarre to me because with Josh, my milk did not come in for 4 days. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

S.,

This happened to me with baby #3. There was no colostrum at birth, it was the real stuff.

One safety issue...DONT PUMP! My OB told me that it causes contractions which can lead to preterm labor. It's even unwise if you are overdue and trying to go into labor because it can make everything happen too fast.

You probably won't have a ton of milk until after the baby is born, so don't worry about engorgement. You are just more aware this time because you know what it feels like.

Congrats on baby #2,
S.

Must be the second-time-around pregnancy. The same thing happened to me. My OB said it's perfectly normal. (Not that that makes it any more bearable!!)

i leaked pretty much from my 3rd or 4th month until delivery, i never actually felt it let down, but you may be more sensitive than i am or something. i don't think it is necessarily anything to be concerned by, but if you are worried, ask your obgyn on your next visit and they can probably give you a thorough explanation.

Did you breast feed your first? I did my first child James. I am currently 36wks with my 2nd chid. I felt the let down sensation through out the entire pregnancy. I thought it was that my children are not that far apart. James was 7 months when I got pregnant. Although I had the sensation of let down I have not had any leakage.

Hope this helped a little!!!

It's not silly. I was single and working. I went to my doctor because I was leaking and found out I was 5 weeks pregnant with child number 2!!!! A surprise I promise. As it became more of a problem at work my doctor prescribed pills that stopped it completely. I had to stop taking them 2 weeks before I was due so that I would drop and be able to breast feed. At which point I was FULL. I didn't have any problems, except engorgement (and the pain that goes with that!), but I was told NOT TO pump because it could cause a "quick", early delivery. Knowing what I do know, I went 4 weeks over, I wish I would have pumped!!!! :)

Hi S.--no question about your concerns are too silly for a good provider!! This situation is very normal--my clients frequently ask me about it. You may need to use breast pads to keep your clothing dry.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy--if you are concidering a birth center birth, give me a call. I love meeting with mamasource moms.

Hey my name is J. I am a 26yr old mother of two. I have a 2yr old boy boy and a 6yr old girl. There is no need to worry if your body is producing milk a little early. Your body reacts different with every pregnancy, that's because your hormones change completely with every pregnancy. No need to worry it can be annoying but nothing to fear. Good luck with your new baby.

Sweety I know it is hard being single if you need any help or need to vent please feel free to do so. As for your question I am sorry to say but it does happen to some woman early for you it is really early however if it is going to keep going on might as well start pumping and storing or donating. Best of luck dear I know you can make it I was a very(very) young mom with my first and I did it on my own.

Totally normal, especially for your second pregnancy. I think mine came in sooner and sooner with each child I had.
