I feel horrible.... I work the night shift as a nurse. I work every Sunday from 6pm to. 6 am and when I get home I usually go to sleep. When Lexi my 1 year old gets out of bed I get up and take her to her babysitter and come home and go back to sleep. We'll this morning I didn't wake up until 9:30. This longest she has ever slept in for me before was 8:00. She could have been in there for an hour and a half by her self!! I feel awful and just needed to get that off my chest!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you guys so much for all the support, and yes she wasn't screaming her head off she was just whining! Thank you all once again! And because if the way I felt when this happened her father will now be taking her to day care a little early so I can just come home and go to bed!

You are NOT the worst mother!!! There are plenty of SAHM's I know who sit around on their arse all day while the kids play by themselves. I know of someone who won't even get up to feed their kids breakfast until they are ready to get up, well past ten. You are a wonderful working mother, and if you slept in a little, you needed it! That way, you can be more functional to spend more quality time with her! Don't let guilt consume you. Good job, momma!!!

Please don't beat yourself up. You clearly needed sleep and she was just fine. I would think that if she were upset you would have HEARD her :). Just think about if you didn't get enough sleep and something terrible happened as you were driving.... ? That would be terrible. Everyone is happy and safe. Breathe....

Was she screaming and crying, or was she happily entertaining herself? It is not likely she was screaming and crying for an hour and a half, without you hearing and waking up. If she was entertaining herself that is a good thing. Children/babies need a chance to do that.

I've totally done that, and felt equally bad. Your little Lexi has already forgotten, I'm sure. :)

Don't worry that feeling will come again and again.....

She's ok, you're ok, don't beat yourself up. If she really needed you she would have woke you up.

Mom:

You're okay.

I'm sure this has happened to several moms. I know I've slept through my children getting up. At one - they are usually walking and climbing - and they usually come get me when they wake up...Lord knows...if THEY are awake...MOMMY needs to be awake...

She wasn't screaming her head off right? She was playing quietly in her room? You're okay mom!! She's fine. You're fine!! It's all good!

If that is the worse thing you ever do, you are doing great. She was not screaming; you would have heard. I was lucky my kids woke up and played in their cribs for an hour.

I have done this too years ago when my now 16 year old was 8 months old. I felt horrible!! I would do the same as you, wait until she wakes up and then take her to daycare, but after that incident, i stopped doing that. I cannot imagine you going directly to sleep as soon as you get home, unless you are one of those people that can fall asleep ASAP! I on the other hand was wired for about an hour after i got home, so i would wake my baby and take her to the daycare where she would stay for about 5-6 hours while i came home and slept. Maybe you could try this? Good luck!

I didn't even understand the problem, lol.
So you can't be a bad mom.
With 5 under 8 we have little ones screaming until I can get to them a lot.
And yours was only whining.

Honey, you need to get a thicker skin about this, or you will feel like the worst mother ever for the rest of your days.

And that is hardly helpful...

Pull yourself up by your proverbial bootstraps and just get on with living. Your daughter will be fine.

If your child was able to get out of the crib and hurt herself it could have been much worse. You work very long hours and it is understandable how much you need to rest....However if you can't/don't wake up on your own and can't get the sitter to come over and pick up your baby, please set a couple of alarms and child proof her room so she can't hurt herself or get out of the room without some assistance. Also make sure all your fire alarms are in good working order.

You are right to feel a bit guilty, but you are FAR from the worst mother in the world...You just need a little more help.

Blessings....
