With the winter season coming and upper respiratory infections galore at my daughter's daycare, I want to get a good vaporizer/humidfier in the event she gets sick/congested. Any suggestions which works best for your child(s)?
Thanks!

I love my Air-O-Swiss air treatment system. It is more expensive than others but it is less expensive to maintain. There is also no heat involved at all so no worries of scalding if it would get knocked over.

My husband wrote this...he's right, we kept buying cheap ones that either broke or had mold build up. Finally we bought a good one. I like the fact that ours kills mold and bacteria. Good luck!

We've got the Slant-Finn GF-220. It's a warm air humidifier with two, one gallon tanks and a UV bulb to kill bacteria mold. So far, so good. We have a 50 year old house with drafty windows in Chicago weather, forced air heat.

We have the Holmes Cool Mist humidifier and it really helped when our 8 month old had a sinus infection.

Any cool mist humidifier should work to clear up congestion and open up breathing. I have a child with breathing problems and everytime I go into the hospital they say the same thing. Cool Mist humidifier. The coolness keeps swelling down in throat and passage ways clear. It does wonders for my kids..especially for croup or sinus infections or bad congestion.

We have the Hello Kitty (Crane brand) one from Target. So quiet, works well, no complaints at all.
I would recommend using distilled water in it though if you have hard water. If you use tap water (in any humidifier) you will get lots of mineral deposits and it just makes cleaning it harder :)

I just bought a cool mist Vicks that I love. It cost around $50.00 at babies r us or Target. I like it because it is super quiet, very compact, you can angle the mist adjustment, has no filters to replace, and is really easy to clean. I have had a crane cow model and it broke, also a vicks warm mist and it seemed to not work well as we have very hard water.

We have one of the Vicks warm mist ones. I dislike the "cool mist" type - they're finicky and break all the time, plus they're more expensive. The warm one simply heats the water until it evaporates. Works great. Never breaks.

My suggestion is pretty simple and fairly priced. You can get it at your local CVS. It is a Vicks vaporizor. It puts out warm heat and you can buy the Vicks oil to put into the top of it so it diffuses the menthol into the room. My kids respond so well to this and have minimal coughing at night when it is used. Good luck!

I absolutely love the Vicks plug in vaporizer. I think it works far better than any other vaporizer I have used, and it safer, less messy etc.

We have the Crane Frog and it works nicely. There are no filters to worry about and it is easy. I have never smelled mold in it either. When I go in my sons room I can feel the moisture. It is also cute too and they have different animals.

I love ours and it's cheap and cute too! It's from target, you can different designs to go with your daughter's room. The one thing I learned when I was looking is that it's not worth the extra price for a warm mist because about the time the mist hits the air, it's cooled off anyhow. They don't work any better.
Here's a link for the one we have:
