Just wanted to jump on the 'gross me out' bandwagon! ha!!!! Those dumb webs give me the HEEBIES for sure .. eeewwwww .. I can't stand them.
I hope to not see them this year - ha!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent web worms? Last year, for the first time ever, our pecan tree was completely engulfed in them. Not to sound like a teenager, but it totally grossed me out. I wouldn't go out in our backyard because I was terrifed of them falling on my head. I have this complete fear of bugs. I have heard that in order to prevent them, I need to take action now before the the worms hatch, but I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh man! I hate those little buggers! Everyone I know had them last year. I couldn't go to my aunt's house they were so bad, they even covered the door! ((shiver))... eww.. From what I remember, the stuff you get from the store only works before they hatch. I know it was expensive. A friend of mine bought it, but it was too late for her. She tried the detergent and water after they had already hatched and it did the trick. Good luck! I sure hope this year is not a repeat of last year! I will not be able to leave the house!
On the news last year a lady said that she used dishwashing detergent in a sprayer (connect to water hose). I'm sure that you can also find something at Home Depot or Lowes. (Don't know for sure which product)
I do agree, they grossed me out too. My in laws are having this problem, I don't think they have tried the dish detergent yet.
Shonda,
I am sorry to say that I have no idea. These worms gross me out, too. As a matter of fact, I was trying to look up some information for you and just couldn't do it. It grossed me out too much! LOL So, I am sorry, but I hope someone can help us out with these. I sprayed down the webs right away last year. They shriveled up, and I didn't see any worms after that. But I also have a very small tree and don't know if any eggs will hatch this year. So, I am eager to see other postings on this, too. :)
