How to Keep a Witch Hat On

I know this is a little ridiculous, but my 6 year old is going to be a witch for Halloween & I don't know how to keep her hat in place? Sort of thought about using bobby pins (I don't have any, so could not test it out), but I am not sure how I would really affix them to the hat. Have you had a witch in the past and had any luck keeping the hat on? She will we the hat to school and Trick or Treating…assuming it will be windy and chilly and I don't want it flying off every 5 seconds.

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Never thought of a pretty satin ribbon in a purple or orange or maybe even silver to match the black and silver skirt! Well done ladies...thank you, thank you!!

If it's too small, it won't stay on, but you could probably poke very small holes along the part of the hat where the brim meets the tall part, and stick bobby pins through to fix it onto her hair :)

I'd get a piece of elastic and make a chin strap.... like those cone shaped birthday hats.

Use a hot glue gun.... I AM KIDDING!!!!! I would sew a satin black, purple or orange ribbon onto the hat so she can tie it under her chin. It would look really cute and keep it in place. You could try the bobby pins but not sure those would work well either. Good luck!

What about affixing the sides of the hat to a headband?

Staple gun.

ROFL! Sorry...I couldn't help it. Kidding!

Anyhow, seriously...how about affixing some pretty ribbon to it? Make two holes on either side and run the ribbon across the front of the hat like a hat band, and down through each hole. Then tie the pretty ribbon under her chin. I'd do purple...it looks neat with black.

Jeez - I got this problem too for my 7 yr old daughter this year. I was thinking of safety pins? Maybe put safety pins on the hat and then slip the bobby pins thru that and into her hair?

Gorilla glue! Sorry couldn't resist. You'll probably have to cut it off at the end of the night but it'll stay on through a hurricane. lol.

Ribbons tied under the chin worked for my girls when they were witches.

I wear a witches hat a lot.....

I have found a few of them stay on best if I place a terry sweatband on my head, forehead and then pull the hat on over the head band.. Holds on there really well.

Ribbon or soft black netting will also work great like the moms said. Poke a hole on each side and tie it under her chin,.

If it is something you don't mind altering, use a hole punch or an awl and a hammer and punch holes in the brim near the base of the hat part. Find some soft ribbon or yarn and that matches the costume and tie it under her chin. Voila!
