Use products without harmful chemicals. We shop with Melaleuca; great for all types of skin issues, among other things! Good luck.

I've also heard olive oil, never adult products like shampoo. You are peeling skin off and don't want that stuff on their raw skin. Olive oil is natural, and you rub with a brush in a circular motion.

But mostly I have been told to leave it alone. It will go away, and it just looks yucky. It doesn't bother the baby, only the adults who can see it. Use little caps to cover it up if you need to. But leaving it alone is supposed to be best.

I used the Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap Care after I just couldn't stand my daughter's cradle cap and having Daddy rub it with his beard stubble after a bath wasn't working. I used it once a day for 2 days, then put her in her exersaucer and *gently* but persistently rubbed all the scales off with a plastic doll's brush. Gently is the key word! I bathed her afterwards and the cradle cap was gone, never to return. I just used this same product and method on one of my daycare babies and got the same results. I recommend using this in between baths and when you don't have to take the baby out anywhere. The cream is kind-of greasy, smells great going on, but stinks like old soap after a few hours. Gentle Naturals is sold at Babies R Us and Target in a green bottle with Pooh characters. Good luck!

There is no cure, just treatment. The best that I have found so far is Renew baby oil. Aside form the oil to moisten the scalp, it has melaleuca alternifolia oil, which is a natural antifungal and antibacterial, it also is deep penetrating. It works great!

I'm only chiming in because no one has mentioned this yet. Cradle cap seems to be a reaction to horomone levels in the body. That's why little babies have it mostly (still have mom's hormones from pregnancy in system). When the hormone levels drop, the cradle cap goes away. Now, if you have an older child (past a year) with persistent cradle cap, then the hormones are coming from somewhere else, usually dairy (milk) which makes sense because of pregnancy hormones in cows coming through in the milk. So, also try reducing or eliminating some suspect foods in your child's diet if the cradle cap keeps coming back. Just an idea. : )

Disney has a cradle cap shampoo at Walmart, and probably other places too (BBRU, I think too). I washed twice, used the soft brush to help loosen, and was done with it. The shampoo is like tar, so it took a few more baths with normal shampoo to get his hair back to normal, and not oily.

Put oil on the child's head, I used olive oil, and let it sit for an hour or so. Make sure you really soak the head with the oil. It should be very greasy. Then after an hour, wash with shampoo, scrubbing hard with your fingertips. You will probably need to shampoo two or three times. Most of the cradle cap will come off if you do it properly. This 100% works. Guaranteed.

I even did this to my father-in-law for a build-up he had on his head.

You might could try to find a rep on here by making a post within your area.

You don't really. You can treat it, but it goes away on its own after a while. Gentle baby shampoo, and a fine tooth baby comb will help get rid of the flakes. My son had a minor case and it went away with time. Oily products make it worse, if I'm remembering correctly.

Put baby or olive oil in the hair and let it sit for at least 20 minutes or longer, then use a soft bristle brush and try to brush all of the flakes off, then wash with any dandruff shampoo or shampoo for cradle cap.

If it's really bad, you can use something like Selsun Blue dandruff shampoo. My middle child had it pretty badly and we were told to use that... But, be VERY careful not to get it in their eyes. My other boys had it pretty minor and we just used the brush from the hospital. Good luck!
