My daughter has been asking me to make cocktail weenies forever now. I'm not a big fan of them but I told her that I would. What do any of you cook them in (as far as sauce). I think that I have usually had them in BBQ sauce. Do you make your own?
I tried to look up a recipe but don't know exactly what they are called.

So What Happened?
Thanks for all your wonderful responses...I chose the BBQ sauce but I recall having the chili sauce and grape jelly ones before and liked them so maybe next time I will do them that way. I am doctoring up my BBQ sauce with some spices however. Thanks again. I am also bringing them to a gathering tonight. Hope they like them also.

My kids like sweet and sour weenies better than bbq weenies.
Take one can of cherry pie filling, one can of crushed pineapple (do not drain!) and a little bit of brown sugar.. maybe a teaspoon or two full. mix them together in the crock pot in the morning and let it simmer on low all day and they are perfect by dinner time.
It has alot more flavor and personally I agree with my kids that its better.

Okay, this might sound a little weird, but they taste awesome! I usually use 1 package of the weenies, 1 jar of chili sauce and 2-3 spoonfuls of jelly. Just toss them in the crock pot with chili sauce and grape jelly. My dad has been making them this way since I was little and I loved them and now my daughter, husband and his family love them this way! Trust me, they taste great! Kim

My kids LOVE these as well (and, like you, I am not a fan of them at all). I buy the Hillshire Farms cocktail sausages (the other brands are fine, but the kids like the Hillshire ones better) and I dump some Ken's BBQ sauce on them until covered in the crockpot and turn on low until heated through - stirring occasionally. Stick some toothpicks in them and your daughter will love it.

I don't know anything about cocktail weenies and cooking them, but I would guess you could make miniature "pigs in a blanket" with them in the oven by using kitchen scissors to cut pillsbury croissant dough and wrap a little sliver round the weenie.

My family loves the cocktail smokies. I use cookies original bbq sauce and grape jelly. Heat in a sauce pan and add the jelly for just that little sweet taste and then put them in a crockpot for an eveing of snack. Best little smokies that I've had are Hillshire. Be cautious not to get spicey smokies or bbq sauce, it's too spicy for kids and me :)

Everyone in my family always uses regular BBQ sauce, and grape jelly. I, however, hate the grape jelly so I changed it and now everyone loves mine!
1 18 oz jar Sweet Baby Rays Honey BBQ sauce
1 can Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce
1 Package Cocktail Weiners
OR
1 Bag of Meatballs
Cook the BBQ sauce and cranberry sauce untill melted together, add the weiners and cook until hot.
You can keep them warm in a crock pot.

I keep it simple: a jar of BBQ sauce and a package of weiners. Voila! Done! Not much for nutritional value, but once in a while I think it's okay.

I've had them most of the time in the BBQ sauce in a crock pot. You could also make pigs in a blanket where you wrap them in biscuit dough and bake them which are very good. I agree as well, Hillshire Farm is best!

This is always a big hit with everyone:
Take the coctail weeinies and wrap them in bacon (just enough to go all the way around) & secure with a tooth pick. Then sprinkle brown sugar over them & bake at 350 unitl the bacon is done & starts to crisp.
My family calls them heart attacks on a stick but they clean the pan every time.

For something different, you can just put them in a pan with water, (enough to just cover the bottom of the pan) cover and cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes & serve with ketchup.
To make BBQ sauce, I use ketchup, brown sugar, garlic, worchestershire sauce and S&P. Then add water little by little until you have the consistency you are looking for. I don't really measure, just a taste and see thing for me.

We all love these at our house. I agree with the other post the Hillshire Farms are the better ones. We like them with Famous Dave's BBQ sauce or the KC Masterpiece brand is really good too. I've also had people tell me to put a little bit of grape jelly in them. Sounds weird but lots of people swear its good. I have tried the grape jelly in meatballs and it was good. Crockpot is the best and easiest way to make them.

We always make this around the holidays.
Our family recipe is: 1 jar of chili sauce & 1 Jar of currant jelly (Smuckers sm. jar) if currant jelly can not be found concord grape jelly can be used
It is more of a sweet and sour then a BBQ flavoring.
Hope you find one that works for you.

I either just do bbq sauce, or sometimes add a little ketchup, mustard, and honey to the sauce. Really depends on what your dd likes. You can cook them in any sauce she likes.

My mom actually served those at my wedding (I am a vegetarian so i was not impressed). Everyone loved them though and now they are a favorite holiday treat in my husband's family. They just serve them in any barbecue sauce they have. Super easy! My son was obsessed with those (minus sauce) when he was a toddler. He thought they were baby hotdogs.

My mother (god bless her, but she's a horrible cook) Has always made them the same way, and it's one of the very few things that she makes that I'll even consider eating, they've been a favorite of mine since I was young. All she does is mixes a a jar of coctail sauce (the red kind... think it's made by kraft, maybe) and a jar of grape jelly. Yes. grape jelly. Sounds horrid, I know, but super good and it doesn't get any easier.
