My son is 2 (25 mo. to be exact). I was curious at what age your son potty trained. My son has no interest at all. I bought a potty and he doesn't sit on it but he will tell me after he's already gone. When he wakes from his naps his diapers are still very wet. I don't want this to be a stressful thing. I was thinking of not even starting to try to potty train until he's 2.5 so maybe by the time he's 3 he'll have it down. What do you think? We have been reading books and watching videos about potty training just to get him familiar with it.
I have 4 boys and the average age between all of them was about 3. I didn't enforce or push it with the younger two. I just let them take their time because I was home with them. They learned from the older two and it wasn't so difficult.
I have two preschool aged boys. My oldest and first started at about 2 1/2 and was fully potty trained (no diapers at nap or night time, and hardley no accidents) by his 3rd birthday. My younger caught on much quicker and started just before his 2nd birthday (22 months). He has been fully trained since a little before 2 1/2 (about 28 months).
My oldest son was pee pee potty trained at 2 and then regressed when we told him that we were pregnant and we went back to diapers and he refused to go potty. Right before his third birthday we explained to him that he was a big boy and that we were throwing his diapers away and he would be weraing nothign but big boy pants. In one week, he was fully potty trained and was not having accidents. For some reason, that seemed to work. My advice to you is to leave the potty out and ask him if he wants to sit on the potty before bath time. See if he has any interest. If not then I would wait until he is around 2 1/2 to really start trying. If you push before they are ready, typically it becomes a battle. And you don't want that!
HEre's the thing... when they're ready, they potty learn in a matter of days (not months). The key is letting them take the lead. There's no sense getting all stressed over it. All kids potty learn. Nobody goes to kindergarten in diapers. They just don't.
Potty learning is not a sign of intelligence, it's a physical milestone like walking that some kids reach sooner than others. There's always the relative who insists their kid was potty trained at 1, but what exactly does that mean? Perhaps they could never leave the house because they were taking the kid to the toilet every 20 minutes to avoid accidents. If he's still in diapers at 3, you haven't failed at anything. Keep this in mind and I think it will make the whole process a bit easier to tolerate.
I know boys are harder to potty train for the most part than girls. My older son was 3 1/2 when he started potty training but still had accidents til he was about 7 cause he had a small bladder just like his dad and uncles from his dad's side.
My youngest just turned 3 and is not interested in sitting in the potty by all means but will tell me after the fact when he goes pee pee or poopy.
I say he will let you know when he is ready, don't push him cause it will be more stressful than it needs to be.
My pedi says that most boys don't start until the age of 4.
If you push him too much you might regress and have to start all over which is what happened w/my youngest. He was doing so good then he lost interest and now he won't even sit on the potty.

try 4+! they started at 2 and took over 2 years to finish because they were stubborn. but once the oldest one decided to finish it up, he was done day and night in a month. the youngest one is now daytime done and we have just started night training. i don't think it will take long since he truly is ready.
I have 3 boys, each trained at a different age but not at 2. The mom that trained her boys before three bless you, our doctor told us most boys don't even have the sensation to go before 3yrs old. You can start introducing the idea, if your husband is confortable let your son watch daddy and see the standing concept. My older boy did not have a father figure around during that time and it was difficult at times getting him to understand he really should stand not sit to pee. Don't be surprised if he gets the pee down before the poo, my middle son had poo accidents for almost a year after he went pee in the potty on his own. Good Luck!
My son didn’t start potty training until he was a little over three years old, but once he did it was like magic! The day he decided he was going to put his mind to it was like flipping a light switch. He never even had an accident.
Everything I have read and been told, as well as experienced with my own children says don’t force it. He will start showing interest in the potty and in potty training soon enough and when he does then you will know its time to start on potty training.
When you do start potty training I would suggest not using pull-ups. We tried that with my nephew and it just confused him. He would go in his pull-ups because to him it was no different then a diaper.
Just follow your instincts and his lead as you already have in mind and it will happen when he's ready. My youngest started at 18 mos and was fully potty trained by 2. And, of course, I thought my second should absolutely be potty trained by 2 and started him at that age and he was NOT ready and it took me a while to realize it's not worth the effort where they're not ready. When they're ready, it is very, very easy. So, we just waited till our 2nd son was ready which was around 3 and there were no issues. I think if you force them when they're not ready, it can be a battle of the wills and you can have the regression and accidents later.
Both my sons were 3+. Now, when they decided it was time to potty train, it was a breeze. Very few accidents compared to my daughter who decided she was ready at 2+. I know it's tough once they turn two and are still in diapers. But, trust me, he'll let you know when he's ready and it will be a cinch -- as long as it's on his terms. ;)
My son was 3 years old when he potty trained. I told him, "We're all out of diapers, time to use the potty!" and he did it within a few days. Good luck!
I was so lucky my 2 boys were done by the time they were a year and half . my second was born when my first was going to be 2 and i could see me changing one then the other. They caught on very fast. My daughter is going to be 2 and she is trying. since she is the youngest i want to take my time but i push her to go all the time.
I have 2 boys both of them potty trained at 3 1/2.
I wish mine would. Mine is about 50% potty trained and he's 4 1/2. We aren't pushing him but we've tried everything. I have to remind him - he won't just go on his own. I think he's just going to do it in his time. Good luck.
