on a good nite I get about 6 hrs, but usually closer to 5. I really would LOVE to get the 8 hrs that are recommended, but I think that won't happen until my kids are older.
I have been sleeping between 5-6 hours a night since I was in college. Some of that stems from the fact that in my last year of college I was taking 18 hours of classes each semester and working 35 hours a week so I actually didn't have a lot of time for sleep but I functioned amazingly well. Now that I have a career, two small children, and a house to run I'm still getting 5 hours a sleep a night and seem to operate just fine. I know that the average person should get 8 hours of sleep and it's different for everyone but I was generally wondering How Much Sleep Do Most People Get. I know my limit is probably 6 hours because I get up every morning at 5:30 am and I'm not in bed before 12:00 am most nights. I have definitely sleep trained myself and sleeping in is getting up at 7:00 am. How much sleep do you get and do you think it's too little, just right, or not enough?

I go to bed about 11 and wake up several times in the night but usually dont get up until about 5 on my own with no alarm. My husband has been getting up about 5am for 30 years and I have fallen into that pattern too even when we have no reason to get up. I have never slept well since I was young. I can remember at 6 yrs old, laying in bed for hours on end wishing I was asleep. Ive done all the things they say to help promote better sleep. None of it worked. And I feel I function fine during the day with less sleep than most. I loved when I had my babies because it gave me something to do in the night when I was awake.
I need 9 hours or I'm a mess. Can't believe you mommas can get by on 5 hours. WOW I wish : )
In total? About 6 hours. But my longest 'stretch' of sleep in the last 5 years has been 4 hours, but more often they're about 2 hours - my kids are ALL horrible sleepers :o(
It's definitely NOT enough....but that's why god invented coffee, right? lol

I usually go to bed between 10PM and 11PM and get up at 7AM - although the last few days has been a total shocker for me!! Yesterday - I slept until 10AM!!! HOLY SMOKES!!!
So to answer your question - I typically get 7 hours of sleep a night.
I get between 7 and 8, although I've been staying up later and later for whatever reason. Today I got to sleep in until almost 8 which was awesome!! Especially when I woke up and my husband had turned on the Firefly marathon on the science channel.
Strangely as I have gotten older or since I have had kids I have felt I need more sleep. I work full time, have two kids under the age of 5, am a wife and have three dogs so like you am very busy. I also know that if I don't get between 7-8 hours I am a bear and very grouchy. I don't stay up late anymore to finish the things (laundry, misc. cleaning, e-mails, etc) I wish I had more time for. Time is prescious and honestly I have become a little selfish about my sleep and want 7-8 hours :) Back in the day I lived on little sleep and LOTS of caffeine. Now I am trying to stay as healthy as I can and give my body what I now know it needs.

I would love to get 8 hours, but am happy with 5 hours. Most often I get 3 - 4 at night, and then nap for 30 minutes to an hour in the afternoon. That has been my normal for about 10 years now.
I get 6.5 to 7 hours per night. Would prefer 8 or 9. I do get an extra hour on weekends, but if I stay in bed too long I just feel really sluggish all day.
I get about 8-9 hours of sleep every night. I'm a full time working, single parent mom to a 6 year old boy. We're both really active but we also both like our sleep. :) He's in bed between 8pm-8:30pm on weekdays (and up around 7am). I'm in bed by 10pm and up at 7am.
NOT ENOUGH! Never enough! I'm a sleeper... all through my so-called 'party years', I was still the first one in bed. I love going to bed between 8-9PM. I am one of those people who needs around 10 hours to be functional (and not a cranky dragon lady!) I can't nap during the day... so my night-sleep is super important. The average person runs off 7 hours. I am definately an exception to the rule. I LOVE SLEEP!! :) But usually, I end up waiting until the kids go to bed at 8PM to get a lot of housework done, so I don't go to bed until 10 and wake up around 7... that's 9 hours... but not enough ;)
Between 5 and 6 like you. I don't think it is enough. I am miserable every morning for about the first hour but then I function very well the rest of day and keep going until about 1 am again the next night.
We all stay pretty much on the same schedule all year long. The kids (15 spec needs, 11 and 8) all go to bed at 8pm. They don't have to sleep but have to stay in their rooms and they are good about going to sleep when they are tired. Hubby and I stay up to about 10:30 or 11ish. He gets up about 6:15 and wakes me up at 7. So I get anywhere between 7 and 9 hours but I am a VERY light sleeper. I wake up and go to the bathroom about 2-3 times and I check on the kids once per night. And I toss and turn alot. So I don't get deep sleep. Maybe 5 hours of deep sleep is better than 8 hours of light sleep? Not sure but I'm not suffering so all is well!
How much sleep you need varies from person to person and even in a single person across ages.
Right now, 8 hours feels good, but getting 7 hours is typical (I'm the first one up and the last one to get to sleep).
9 hours is luxury and a vacations and long weekends are wonderful for this.
My "perfect" sleep is EITHER 7 or 9 or 12 hours. I can cope with 5. I DID cope for several years with 3... but my body can no longer handle 3 hours, and has a difficult time coping with 5. ((Something to keep in mind, however, is that my son and I are *typically* super active. We start off the day with 6miles, and then have between 5-10 hours a day of intense exercise; swimming, snowboarding, etc. On top of his schooling and mine))
8 leaves me exhausted and cranky (apparently, it's the 'wrong' zone in my sleep phases, always has been, from childhood on. 8, 8.5, whatever... I'm a complete mess).
I'm super lucky. My son is older now, so nearly all this year, while he's been 8... he gets up around 7ish, gets himself his cereal, takes a shower, does his chores, and then hops on the tv/computer and I get up an hour later. Do my thing, cook brunch, and we head out or start school depending on how antsy he is. Pure bliss.
He's just hit a growth spurt (age 9), however, so now he's sleeping in until 11ish. Wowza. So I can sleep in until 10ish getting 9 hours.

In the winter, we usually spend it snowboarding M-F. That's our "switchup" where I'm getting up at 4ish about an hour before HIM. We're getting the same amount of sleep, but he's going to bed about 7pm, and I'm asleep by 9.
This winter/spring we spent most of it in the hospital off and on (1 week here, 3 weeks there kind of thing). I can't quantify my sleep during that period. Esp, not the first week we were home (since I'd be doing 24 hour schedule meds). I slept in naps.
