How Much Do You Daydream?

I don't know what is going on with me, but it seems like I am daydreaming all of the time. I've always been a bit of a daydreamer, but now I've concocted these elaborate stories and I find myself thinking about them way too much. Does this happen to anyone else? What does it mean?

Yes I do ALL the TIME! I have always been a big reader and I notice I get really bad when I haven't had to time to read a book for the pure enjoyment of it.
I am like you in that I will get very elaborate with it and will continue it on for days or longer and add things to it or change things as I go. If I have a dream at night, one that I especially like or didn't get to finish, I go from there. I am really bad about day dreaming about past events and how things would have turned out if I had done things differently.
I really don't think it means anything bad as long as you are not day dreaming of hurting yourself or others or intending to act anything out that may be detrimental to something or it as long as it is not distracting you from your day today responsibilities and hindering your daily relationships. For me, I think it means that I am not satisfied in a particular area of my life and I try to compensate for it some how. Whether I'm lacking me time or feel like I am lacking a physical or emotional connection with my husband or I am just plain old tired of the same thing day in or day out.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe you should sit down and write a book...release some of that creative energy! ;)

I am a pieces, it is just in my nature to day dream. If I did not day dream I would not be me! Some things are about situations that will NEVER happen but are fun to think about and some are almost visions of the future "trying on a decision" so to speak. I do it mostly while in the shower, doing dishes, vacuuming or other boring mundane household chores.

I daydream while driving. Sometimes (actually, a LOT of times) I pull into my driveway and think "huh, I don't even remember getting off the highway!" or "I don't remember going through that traffic light". Yikes!

I once read in the NY Times that a certain small percentage of the population are very creative daydreamers - so much so that it is almost like they have a movie camera going in their minds. Some can get very elaborate. I was interested because I can be like that at times, when I'm not overly busy. I would say try to use it to your advantage - maybe find some kind of outlet for your ideas, like writing.

I'm with Lovemyboys. I also dream about a clean house, clean dishes when I get home from work, dinner already cooked, and taking a nap. Oh, also having time to myself to work out.
My worst day dreaming is when I am B-O-R-E-D.

A bonus would be kids that say yes when I tell them to do something.

I daydream when vacation planning. I will look through hotel websites and the whole time I'm picturing us by the pool, us in the room, the kids laughing while out sightseeing. I almost have to picture it to plan it. I will walk through our day, pictuirng check in, then we go to the room, we change, we go to lunch, go to the museum, then its time to shop. They key is not to daydream things that are unreasonable! That way I'm never disapointed in the reality!!!

Daydreaming comes in many forms. The top 3, in my opinion, are:

1. Boredom
2. Mental planning
3. Escapism

I find myself staring out the window when I am involved with something that I have no interest in (Math, History, Science). It helps me remain awake and appear to be interested when I make eye contact or nod my head like I am paying attention.

Mental planning is usually when I have a mental list of things that need to be done, go over what has already been done, or focusing on goals for the future. The latter tends to get me sidetracked from in the here and now. I have already mentally landscaped my boyfriend's back yard...lol.

Alas..escapism daydreaming involves an alternate universe where everything goes my way and according to my plans. It gets me away from the reality of a negative situation..or relationship. This is the most unproductive and the most time consuming. When we daydream of a perfect world, we can get so caught up in that world that the things and people around us are robbed of our attention and affection. This type is an avoidance from the reality we created and are unwilling to take the steps needed to change our circumstances.
