All I know is........
It takes a lot longer to burn off a piece of cake than to eat one.
Have you tried Googling?
There are charts that say how many calories you burn off doing a certain activity for a certain amount of time.
Best wishes.
So, if I walk on the treadmill and burn around 400 calories, how many is that in an hour? Please let me know how you figure that out too. Thanks!

I would suggest getting a heart rate monitor, to get an accurate number.
The number on the treadmill is totally arbitrary - unless you're entering your height, weight, and age along with it. Even then, it's just a guesstimate based on what the averages are for other people in that range.
If you really want to know what you're burning (which sadly, is probably far lower than the number you've been seeing), get a heart rate monitor to track your body's actual response to the activity.
You would have to include the amount of time you were on the treadmill. If you were on for an hour you burnt 400 calories per hour.
You really need a heart rate monitor to get the most accurate results.
Not enough information to give you an answer. How long does it take you to burn those 400 calories?
If it's 1/2 hour, then you double it to finish out one hour. Multiply by two to get 800 calories.
If it's 1/3 of an hour, or twenty minutes, then multiply by three, for 1200 calories per hour.
If you burned that much in 45 minutes, that's 3/4 hour. To calculate that leftover 15 minutes, which is 1/3 of the 45 minutes you worked, add on another 1/3 of 400 calories, for a total of 530 calories in an hour.
Or, of course, if you worked for an hour, then you've burned 400 calories an hour.
Bear in mind that a treadmill calculates based on average body metabolisms, so those numbers may be higher or lower that what you've actually burned.
there are estimaters online and some treadmills have them too but unless you find out what rate your body burns calories at (nutritionist can help with that I think) then you will not pin point an answer.
the average women burns about 120 calories a mile. this varies by how fast you are walking, your age, if you included hills or interval training, and your weight, dont trust the number on the machine! I know it takes me about an 1hr and 15 minutes to burn 400 calories while jogging and doing hills and sprints.
Yep - many other posters here are correct. The numbers that the machine spits out are very rarely accurate. A heart rate monitor is the best way to go.
i use to burn 300 calories on a treadmill, my speed at 3.5-3.7 in 40 mins , 3 miles
Well, each person burns them at different speeds based on how fast you are walking, how much you weigh and your metabolism! So how long to you walk to burn 400?
