Just write over it with regular dry erase marker intended for the white board. It will come right off. My custodian where I used to work showed me that trick and it has come in handy MANY times!
The little girl I used to tend used regular markers on my whiteboard. I have used cleaners and rubbing alcohol to no avail. How do I get this stuff off without ruining the board?
I tried the dry erase markers over the other marker but that didn't work. I have a few other remedies that others have suggested that I'll try. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.

I scrub mine now & then w/a magic eraser. I've even done that on the cheepie laminated paperboard "dry erase" boards you can get from the Dollar Store. It doesn't damage that either.
Sometimes, if you use a regular Expo marker (whiteboard marker), and rub it all over the other marker, you can wipe it off easily. See if that works for you . . .

Have you tried nail polish remover? That is what I use for permanant marker. Another option is googone maybe...and it smells like orange.
Go back over the regular marker with a whiteboard marker and then you should be able to erase the regular marker. This tip came from a teacher who had the same problem. I hope this helps.

You might also check out the Magic Eraser (find it in the cleaning aisle). I haven't used it on white boards, but I have used it on almost everything else and it really is "magic!" Might be worth a shot?!
try coloring over the regular marker with a whiteboard marker. Took Sharpie off of one I used a school no problem. =)
I know you can get permanent markers off a white board by tracing the lines with the dry erase marker and then erasing it. Hope that works for you!
Hi R. - I used softscrub with bleach to clean mine and it looks good as new.
I found a great product called sol-u-mel. It will take out a lot of things like marker from tile or tile in grout. It is not sold in the grocery store but it is an awesome cleaner. I use it for everyday uses. It is a very versital cleaner and it is eco-friedly, pet and kid safe.

You might try non-acetone nail polish remover. That's what an educational white board company recommended to me to clean grungy ones. Not necessarily for real marker, but I think it might work.
Try using some fingernail polish remover. Worked like a charm for me!
when I worked as a custodian at a jr. high we just used a vinegar and water mix.
I want to buff mine a bit too and have been looking into it. this is the website I found some great ideas at

Try coloring over it with your whiteboard markers and erasing it as normal. This has worked for me in the past.
Don't use regular marker! Write over the marks with your whiteboard marker and then wipe it all off. It will get your board almost completely clear. The more you use the whiteboard markers over the other marks, the clearer it will become. You can also periodically use just regular whiteboard cleaner.
I've used the whiteboard marker over the top of permanent marker before and it works. Good luck!
I am a school teacher outside of the home and trust me, the trick is simple. Simply take the whiteboard marker and write over the marks the little girl made. Then erase. You might have to do it a few times, but that's all it is. I've had plenty of little kids marking on my board during parent teacher conferences and it just took writing over the marks with the actual whiteboard marker and erasing. Good luck!
Have you tried Mr Clean Eraser or Goo Gone/Goof Off? I have found that those products or vinegar & baking soda work wonders on stains I can't get off with other cleaners. Good luck!
Make it a GREAT day!

Rubbing alcohol can damage it. Use gas, yes car gas, and/or oil. You will then need to clean it again but only with water and very mild diluted soap. Good luck!
Try baby wipes. I have seen them take permanent marker off a white board. Good luck!
There are products on the market that you can purchase at business stores like office depot. But I use clear hand sanitizer and it cleans the white board just as good as the expensive stuff. For perment marker spray aresol hair spray so it wets the board and then wipe the board with a paper towel. I hope this will help you. J.
It is really easy....Take a white board marker and write over top of the regular marker and erase with the white board eraser. You may need to do it a couple of times, but it always works like a charm.
We use window cleaner and it takes it right off.
It seems like I remember that using the regular maker to scribble over the makings, and wiping it off right away works, try it on a small spot first. Maybe someone else has a more recent memory of doing this, mine is several years old.
i know that if you accidentally use a permanent marker (sharpie, etc) on a white board, you can actually just draw over it with a dry erase marker and it erases it. . . i don't know if this works once you've used other things on it, but it's worth a try!
Hi there, try this- go over the marker marks with another dry eraser marker then erase. The marker should come off. Using the spray (white board spray) just clean off your board. Should look good as new.
