any one have any clue how to get permenent marker off of a dry erase board? i gave my son a marker to wrie and i grabbed the wrong one. i have tried mr clean, and hair spray. got any other ideas?? also any moms have any ideas for easy little kids crafts? ages under 5.
If no one has told you this already, permanent marker is alcohol based, so you can take it off with alcohol. It's actually a great thing to write with on a dry-erase board. In college, I had a big one, and we used a ruler and permanent markers to give each roommate a section. Then we'd write messages for each other with the dry-erase markers. Just watch out, because the other thing that takes off permanent marker is a dry-erase marker. If you draw with a dry-erase marker across the permanent marker line, then erase it, the permanent marker will be gone.
Hope that helps!

Write over the premanent marks with the dry erase marker and then wipe it off with a wet towel. You may have to do it a couple times but I have used this trick several times and it works well.

Try WD-40 on the dry erase board.
Other fun things for 5 year olds to do. Glue and macaroni. Glitter glue and other pastas. Um, my daughter loved to paint. Buy some water color paints at the store, and some heavy duty construction paper. Colored is fun for painting too. Oh, somehow I've seen teachers glue popcorn to paper! Not sure what glue they used, but it was a fun project. Use paper cups and beans to make shakers. You'll need something to cover up the bottom. Oh, or you could make a tambourine type, with using two paper plates. Have your son color/decorate the plates (on what we'd NOT eat on side) and then add in the beans, or rice, or old noodles, and glue the edges together! Can also double as a light duty drum.
Have fun!!

Nail polish remover works great! Also, if you catch it right after, a baby wipe works well to get most of it off - I used that when my son colored to whole dry-erase board with a permanant marker, and it worked pretty well, then I went over it with a paper towel and nail polish remover.

Hi R. this is a similar problem at church. I put the permanent marker on the dry erase board. So this teenager took the dry erase marker and put over top of each letter that I had wrote and then erased the letters and it came off. Hope it works for you.

I just had this problem! Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! My daughter has a dry erase board in her room...she has a "school" themed room. I left a Sharpie in the next room and my 3 year old got to it and colored all over the dry erase board. I didn't try anything else...went straight for the Mr. Clean and of course hid the Sharpie(I know, a little late)! Anyhow...try that...hope it works!

Here is a suggestion for you. Go over the perment marker with the dry erase marker and just wipe it off. You may have to go over it a couple of times but it should work. Or get some of the cleaner for dry erase boards. That also works. Hope this helps.

Rubbing alcohol is good for getting permanent marker off stuff. I've used it to get perm. marker off of cds/dvds & plastic storage bins. As for crafts, stop by a Hobby lobby or Walmart and just browse through the craft stuff. When my daughter was little she liked to glue stuff on paper to make pictures- feathers, popsicle sticks, pom-poms, wiggly-eyes, etc. Or she would mix it in a bowl to make a soup or potion. Give them some stuff and see what they come up with. You could also try foam shape crafts. Most of them are sticky so you don't have to deal with the glue mess.
Good luck & have fun!

Wake a dry-erase marker and scribble over the top of the permanent mark. Make sure you cover it completely and go over it several times. It make take several times to get it completely, but it will wipe off.

a great time consuming art project would be to use scissors to cut out of magazines or sunday ads and make a collage of things they like or things they want or even flowers . cutting is great physical therapy for their little hands. playdough is also a great long time craft and is as simple as pulling out your rolling pin and cookie cutters to let them get carried away.making snakes and pizza or cookies. my kids love it ages 14,10,7,3 it keeps them all pretty entertained for i would say a good 2 hours. and i just go around them and sweep any dropping under them. and the rule is to stay in your seat so that it does not get in the carpet or tracked around the house. good luck and god bless**

I know that this sounds counter-intuitive, but mark over the permanent marker area with an appropriate dry erase marker. Do it heavily, so that the dry erase is "thick" and then you should be able to wipe EVERYTHING away with the dry erase eraser.

Hi R.,
I had that same exact problem with the permanent marker on my dry erase board. Go over the marks on the dry erase board with the perm marker again, only WIPE it off immediately (before it has time to dry again). Worked for me! Good luck
A fun kid friendly craft is to take lunch size paper sacks (colored ones if you have em are great), and have the little ones decorate them as animals. You can pre-cut shapes for ears, noses, horns, tails etc. from construction paper, then the kids can use stick glue to attach them. Use the bottom (flap) as the front for face....they can use the bags then as puppets. (Hope that made sense! LOL)

Using a Dry Erase marker, scribble over the lines and cover them up. Then rub with the dry erase marker or a paper towel. When you erase, it will all come off. Good luck!!

Easy answer- just take the dry marker, go over the permanent mark, and voila! it should come off after a couple of times! If not, there is a product that will remove permanent marker. You can get it at Office Max or Staples. It's called REMARLABLE remover by Hubert. It lasts forever! Good luck, and keep the permanent markers in a separate container!
For good Craft ideas, go on Ebay and get a subscription to FAmily Fun. You can get a 2 year sub. for only $4.00. It takes a while to get the first issue, but it is a fantastic magazine with great ideas. While you're waiting, go to www.familyfun.com and get ideas from there!!

I would try these in a small corner just to be safe.
