How do I block a number from calling my cell phone?
This company in Florida is driving me crazy!!! They literally called me 20 times yesterday and have already called me 5 times today. It's one of those spam calls where they try to talk you into getting a loan through them. Every time I tell them to take me off their calling list, they just hang up on me. I've even called them back and have asked to speak to a manager/supervisor and that person hung up on me too!!!
No more "Mrs Nice Guy" if they call again blow a whistle in their ear. don't even say hello -- just blow a whistle long and hard into the phone. They will stop calling.
You block the number and they'll change it next week to another one and start over. Do not call list don't work because they aren't legitimate businesses. My tactic is to get them to hang up.
I had a travel agent call to confirm my vacation plans and wanted to double check my credit card info since I was on the line already. Sure. I put down the phone and went back to work (I work at home). After 5 minutes she hung up and they didn't call again.
The guy calling to confirm payment and installation of a medical alert system in my house? I berated him calling him a terrible human being, how do you sleep at night scaming old people, does your mom know what you do for a living? would you like someone to do this to your grandmother? Several minutes of me berating him talking over him until he hung up.
The chimney cleaner? Asked about their brushes, ladders, what kind of truck they drove, how they paid their employees, how to build a fire in the fireplace so there won't be soot. They hung up never called back. Time share sales call? I asked what color tiles they had in the bathroom, the thread count on the sheets, how often they cleaned the carpets, where the bought the pictures, you name it I asked it.
Basically if there's a human on the other end I make it a point to ask stupid stuff until they hang up after that point they must do something to remove my phone number from their system.
So if you have the time talk to them about a loan. Ask stupid questions and a lot of them. Ask about loans for things like buying a child's bike or lunch meat. Have them explain payments and interest and them tell them sorry you don't understand and have them explain it again and again. They'll grow tired of it and you'll feel better knowing that for a change you are wasting their time instead of them wasting yours. It's good fun.
Do you have an iPhone? If so, update your software to iOS 7 and then go to the Settings. You can block numbers there.
With all due respect to Theresa below, the do not call list was a wonderful tool for a period of time but the cockroaches that engage in these guerilla tactics can get around this by moving their operations overseas, cloaking the number to look as though it's coming from florida or some other state, and work around the do not call registry.
Individual blocking of numbers is usually a better bet. If you have a cell phone, call your carrier and they can instruct you. If it's a land line, try your owners manual. If you don't have an owners manual, google your phone make and model and you should be able to get the information that way. Good luck!!! :-) S.
Call your phone carrier company, and tell them you would like to block a number. They will take care of it for you easily.
Obviously you're not a person who can easily ignore calls. That's how I handle it. They know what kind of response to expect from people who don't want to deal with them, and they make a game of their return response. I ignore them. On the off chance that I don't realize who it is and I answer the phone, I simply hang up once I realize my error.
We've had similar problems too. I'm sorry it's happening to you as well. What we had to do finally was to get caller ID through our phone company. Once we had this service, we were able to block specific phone numbers. It's helped a lot.
Be aware though, that with some scammers, and people like who are calling you, they use one phone number to call from, and then, when enough people block the number they are using, they change numbers, and start calling all over again.
However, we've found that caller ID has worked the best for us.
I have actually threatened to call the attorney general's office of my state. They stopped calling immediately. Try that, but be prepared to follow through if you have to. The FCC also monitors these kinds of calls. You can make a report to the. On-line with any and all the numbers they have called you from. Been there, done that, too.
Ask your cell phone provider. There may be a way to do it directly from your phone, yourself.
do you have a smart / android phone? if you do it is easy to block a number click on your call log then click on the number in question. that number should then be the only thing showing you click at the bottom you can click the info box and it will give you the option to "reject" call. that blocks them. the call may still come in and ring once but your phone will catch it and just reject it. I have a samsung galaxy and thats how you do it on mine.
