We are planning a trip to Texas for Spring Break and I'm trying to help my hubby with entertainment and lodging ideas. Do you have suggestions of great hotels in the Dallas and San Antoinio areas? We really like places that have a suite so that we can bring in food for breakfast, or perhaps a place that offers a "free" breakfast.

My boys are 9 and 13 so we need a little more space and we will certainly want a good pool.

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

The JW Marriott in San Antonio is amazing! Our boys are 7 and 14, and we stayed there for a week last August. We all loved it!

As for the Dallas area, I live south of there, and would recommend looking in the Ft. Worth area instead of Dallas unless you are set on Dallas. There are tons of kid friendly things to do in Ft. Worth (the zoo is amazing, even for a teen, the Stockyards, and Arlington is nearby Dallas and Ft. Worth, but FW has less traffic - Arlington has the Rangers, Six Flags, etc.). I like Ft. Worth much better than Dallas.

Have a great trip! :)

What part of the DFW area were you looking for? I am in the Allen/Plano area which is North of Dallas (just a 1/2 hr drive or less) and there are tons of things to do in Dallas as well Dallas is more "city" vs "country" feel. Ft Worth is more cowboy types.

All downtown Dallas area are:
American Airlines center, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, concerts, etc
West End
Dallas World Aquarium
Reunion tower
Science Center at Fair Park

Frisco has Pizza Hut park for soccer
Frisco Roughriders baseball

Allen has Allen event center, hockey
good shopping.

Ft Worth has a better zoo.
I was at the Stockyards once about 20 yrs ago and I was done.. nothing personal, I just don't get into cowboys and pick up trucks.
Sundance Square is kindof nice.

Arlington has Texas Stadium, Rangers, Six Flags, etc.

Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine is a fun place for kids.
The Gaylord hotel is interesting

I don't know your price point on hotels. Embassy Suites (located all over) are usually nice and kid friendly.

As for San Antonio, again, Embassy Suites, the JW Marriott. Make sure you go to the riverwalk as well.

I book all hotels directly with the hotel website. It is also interesting to scan the Trip Advisor for reviews of the hotels you may select.

Enjoy your trip!!

Country Inn and Suites and Hilton Garden Inns have nice suites, kitchenettes w/ microwaves and mini fridges, and offer a nice bfast. I like CI&S b/c there is always a door btwn the bedroom and living room if you need privacy from your kids. HGI doesn'thave a door but their suites are loooong so there is alot of distance btwn the bedroom and living room.

There is a very nice Studio Plus hotel directly across the highway (I-30?) from Six Flags & the Texas Rangers stadium in Arlington. They offer a weekly rate, are close to restaurants and grocery stores and have a full kitchen in the room. Their pool is outdoor though so if you're set on a pool this may not work for you.

I've been to San Antonio a few times. I love it. I go to Priceline and look at 4 star in a certain area - like Sea World, Riverwalk, downtown, etc. The ones near Sea World usually have free shuttle. We stayed in a Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn, and Courtyard Marriott. All are 2 to 3 star. I've been able to get them for under $75 a night. There was one right across the highway from Sea World has the nicest hotel pool I've ever been in, free shuttle, fridge and microwave in room, but no free breakfast.

Hi M., we went to Disney, and stayed at the Hyatt Place, in 2 different cities. Both hotels were VERY VERY clean, and they had free breakfast too. The rooms were very large, and they had an extended family room with a U shaped couch, a dining room table that wasn't huge, a desk, and the bathroom were great too, with big sinks and vanities. I'm sure Dallas has one, I see them everywhere. We have heard good things about Hyatt Place from others as well. The only bad thing is, their pools are not awesome. They are pretty small for a hotel pool, but clean. And everyone that we encountered, at either place we went, were awesome and went above and beyond, whatever you needed. I'd recommend them.

I just had a stay at the Magnolia Hotel in Downtown Dallas. I had an amazing suite with a full kitchen. There were also lots of freebies; breakfast, happy hour and cookies and milk before bed. They also have free internet and a shuttle in the evenings. Wonderful!
