So What Happened?

It was just a question out of curiosity! I gave my son some for the first time last night and I was just wondering when you all first gave your kids some. He really loved it too! I wasnt worried about it being too hot or anything, I only warmed up the milk a little, and didnt use a lot of chocolate. Just a lil :) Thanks for all the answers!

Three years old maybe a bit younger. We do basically the same as Krista with adding cold milk to just where it's warm instead of hot. We haven't had any yet this season but will soon when it gets cold. They love it with ginger snaps

My oldest was probably around 2 and my youngest was probably a little younger. We LOVE our hot chocolate. They each have their own kid size mug and I fill the bottom with marshmallows. Then I make hot chocolate using Hershey's cocoa, evaporated milk, sugar and vanilla and a pinch of salt and a little water. When it's hot I pour it half way into their mugs and top it off with milk from the fridge. That way it's always the right temp....and leaves more hot chocolate for me ;-)

Last winter, so 2.5. I (still) give it to him 1/2 room temp milk and 1/2 hot chocolate. When they're little "warm" can feel like "hot", so we temper it! It also cuts-down on the chocolate intake!

I offered it to my son when he was around 2. He is 10 now and still won't try it! Boy, he sure doesn't know what he is missing! :)

Mine were around 2 or 3, but I used to make it with carob powder instead of chocolate. It tastes just as good, especially if you haven't ever had chocolate. I would sweeten it with honey and sometimes add a little cinammon and nutmeg. It's delicious! I know that if I eat chocolate in the evening, I have trouble falling asleep. It's definately a stimulant, and my kids don't need stimulating! It doesn't help them behave in a desirable fashion :) Now that they are 4 and 5, they have regular chocolate, unless it's late in the day. And it's a treat, like after a cold rainy trip to the park, not a daily thing.

I can't remember, but probably around 18 mo-2 years. Make it yourself for the tastiest and healthiest option. Or, you can order a "kid's cocoa" from most coffee places, and they'll make it lukewarm.

not sure if you are concerned about the hot factor, the chocolate factor, or just asking! Both my kids had hot chocolate when they were about 2 - I of course cooled it off, so it was more like luke warm chocolate....neither drinks chocolate milk regularly, but as a special treat, they both had it (but prefer vanilla) starting around 2 as well.

They were 2 and 3. I made it using milk, and I added some cocoa and sugar. They loved it but we only drink it after playing outside in the snow. It's a fun treat! :) No marshmallows for us...I've never been able to find marshmallows made with all-natural ingredients. :(

My son is 3.5 and he had his first hot chocolate this past October..... so age 3.5. It was a special treat for "big boys." I did mine the regular way - hot water. He first ate it with a spooon like soup so he could blow on each spoonful. Then half an hour later he drank it like he would a regular drink.

My daughter was about 2.5 and my son hasn't had it yet, he just turned 2 in Sept. I imagine he'll probably get some this winter and I know he will love it!!
