Hi Moms,

My sis-in-law and 2 of her sons are visiting for a little under a week in mid-July. They boys are 5 & 8, and both like horseback riding. Are there any places you would recommend in the Richardson area that are kid-friendly for riding? (We live near Coit/Campbell). Also, any other fun, inexpensive things you can do locally with younger kids? My little guy's only 14 mos. so I haven't figured this stuff out yet. Thanks so much!

Try the Rockin R Ranch in Frisco. They do trail rides for $35 and up. I got the brochure at my son's school and was planning on taking he and some friends out. (I took lessons when I was a child and want my kids to be familiar with horses...). It's the only place I've found in the area other than boarding stables (which are all over DFW). In most cases, the boarding stables are only for people with their own horses.

Oh - and also water park related - Hawaiian Falls in Firewheel is fun, and MUCH cheaper than Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (and you can bring a cooler with your own food).

Have Fun!

My sister and her kids just came through so I know how you feel. Celebration Park in Allen is a good bet for those ages. I would also consider the Mesquite Rodeo. They only perform fri & sat night but they are really reasonable entrance fees and my neice (8) & nephew (5) as well as my daughters (3 & 19mos) had a GREAT time. We also went with my 13 mo old neice and she had a good time watching all the action too! www.mesquiterodeo.com. Good luck!

The City of Allen has a splash park that would be good for all of those ages. It is FREE! FYI, there is very little shade there, so bring your water to drink. My 2.5 yr old LOVES it. Here's a link: http://www.cityofallen.org/departments/parks_recreation/p...

The City of Plano has one at Joe Farmer pool but I think the 8 yr old would be bored.
